Cooling Questions.

    Hi guys.

I've been away from my pc for a while, but just before I left(sniff) I put a 1.4 Athlon CPU in it, and it was fun while it lasted.

While I've been away, I have read many horror stories about how hot T-Birds are, and how important good cooling is. When I got the chip, I recall that it would lock up on me if I booted at 1.4. It worked fine at around 1.33. I don't have a very fancy fan or HS on it, I think it's a copper based taisol with a standard 12v fan on top. I've also heard bad stories about crushing T-birds cores with heatsinks when trying to attach them. This also worries me, as my efforts to attach heatsinks have often been quite ugly, is there some magic tool that is best for putting them on?

Basically, have a look at these please, and tell me what would be appropriate.I'm not in the money so don't even bother recommending one of those 50 quid affairs... Oh and due to my putting an Abit mobo in my old dell case, I have to boot by forming a bridge between the two powrr pins, so i have the side of the case removed, though slanted against the side.Could this have an adverse effect on my cooling? I just don't want to blow this lovely CPU a couple of weeks down the line...

Theres nothing wrong with your existing heatsink, I have built machines which put out more heat than yours, and have used the same heatsink as yours, before it had the copper base in it. Those heatsinks you suggest are no improvement, theres some other reason why your machine is locking up at 1.4 ghz. If its a kt7a board, its possible it has a problem with the 1.4 chip. Install via hardware monitor or motherboard monitor and tell us what temp the chip is running at 1.33.
