Anyone seen this b4 ?

    Win98 won't boot. Boot to dos and do a dir and it returns corrupt file and dir names e.g. windows is ndndows, command.com is c mmand.c m etc.
    I'm sure I've seen this b4 and it was a faulty ide cable but I've replaced that and still the same.
    Anyone ? Bueller ?

    Nope, already did. I'm thinking h/d is wrecked but format followed by scandisk shows nothing wrong.

    fdisk /mbr
    although format probably wipes it anyway..

    Thanks Kali but had tried this as well. Fought with it last nite 'til I got thirsty and had to go to UK today so I wont get near it 'til weekend. And I just got my new Celeron 2 600 running stable at 800mhz.
    Bah.

    try installing a different os or use a different win98 cd
