I also liked Mario Kart, Max Payne, Virtua Tennis 2 and GTA3. It hasn't been a terribly great year though, but next year should be an improvement with 3 consoles out...

Operation. Flashpoint.

Without a doubt the most involving extensive playable game it has ever been my pleasure to play.

Black and white was 'cute' for the first 3hours.
Quickly got bored. Monster wasn't growing, or becoming 'mostery' enough, as quickly as I'd have liked. it was too easy to kill the natives. No challenge in wreaking havoc amongst your own people. The brother loved it though.

Insane is a class racing game. Great physics engine and the capture the flag mode surpasses many an FPS's implementation of it.

Well for the PC I would have said Max Payne and I really did enjoy playing it BUT after picking up Return to Caslte Wolfenstein - WOW!!!

aok:the conquerors is the only game that i can think of that i bought this yer that actually came out this year
apart from that it was all older stuff.
although i really liked max payne.
i thought black and white was good fun.
tekken tag was great (this year?)
gt3 was really good fun
blue shift was the biggest waste of time.
i suspect retur to castle wolfenstein will be good, but far too short i hear. which is a shame coz ive gone back to single player games.
in fact, f*ck it, bard is right, im gonna get out half life and play it again.
that was when they knew how to make games.

Rune is the only game I played and finished this year apart from Q3. Story, animation and general *feeling* was great. Pity it didnt get the reception it deserved imho.

Biggest disappointment... hmmm B&W but only because thy hyped it to high heaven.

I'm playing Armada2 right now which I think is very good. But have also been playing Civ3, RTCW, Empire Earth and Dark Age of Camelot, all of which I thought were good.

I'd say Max payne or RTCW, probably have to go for Max payne at the minute because RTCW's single player was disappointing towards the end and I can't find anywhere good to play online yet (*hint* people should start using eddie.ign.ie more*hint*).
