    I'll be there.

By the way, for those who'd like more info, Warpcon is UCC's annual convention, there should be an associated website at http://www.irishgaming.com/warpcon, but it appears to be having a little difficultly at the moment.

The dates are the 25th - 27th of January in UCC. The contact address is warpcon12@yahoo.co.uk

Also appearing is John Kovalic, author of Dork Tower and illustrator and designer of many, many games.

    Lir.

Why is he forcing you to go?

More to the point, how is he forcing you to go?

And you never know, you might have fun.

    Lir.

    Oh yeah .. Lir

before I forget .. I stuck up a link with a couple of pics from Gaelcon 2001 on the wargames board ("painted models" thread).

They include the "dancing Taryn" pic and you with a belt undone :p

Sadly gentlemen .. I shan't be attending WarpCon. Wouldn't be able to get the time off work on Friday to head down :(

are u allowed just go for a look? or is there a big entry fee or something? i used to play fantasy miniatures wargaming when i stayed with my cousins years ago, wouldn't mind popping in if i'm in college one of those days to see what its like

Hmm... ok, I can't make an authoritative comment on this as it isn't my con, but it all depends on how long you intend wandering around for.

The day charge to the con is €6.50 or €14 for the weekend, but you may well be allowed to just take a nose around, I don't know. Of course, if you do intend to stay you'd have to pay then. The con doesn't start until Friday evening and it ends Sunday evening, but it is well worth taking a look at.

Wargaming wise there'll be a lot of Game Workshop stuff and a reasonable amount of Steve Jackson Games Ogre/GEV. Probably some Battletech and other assorted games.

Best idea is to wander along to the Main Hall of the Student Centre and ask.

    Lir.

Well, I'll certainly mutter about a few bits...

I had an amazing weekend. Good drink, good games, good company, and Warpcon's venue is probably still the best college venue in the country. There was an extremely good mix of tabletop and Live Action games going on, the CCG area was constantly full and the Wargamers (unfortunately hidden away as they were) didn't seem to stop killing each other all weekend.
In addition to this there was reasonable space for pick up games and for ppl to just sit around and do whatsoever they wished.

The trade stands were of the usually expected high quality and Impact Games from Liverpool had some stuff that you probably won't be able to buy in .ie for quite a while. Oh, and John Kovalic is an amazing guy and people should buy his books and get him to draw stuff for them. He's a great guest and God willing it won't be too long until he's back in the country.

The bad bits? Well, my hangover on Saturday morning was a little annoying... but seriously, Warpcon's timetable still doesn't work. The claim that Saturday games start at 10am, the same time the doors open, makes other con timetables look like hard fact. The late start on Saturday morning meant that some GMs (especially) were constantly running games from 10.30 until 22.00 when they were kicked out of the building. Oh, and the closing ceremony was innovative, but imo didn't work. Lining everyone up like that before giving them their prizes just didn't work.

But anyway. Warpcon still rocked, it was a truly wonderful weekend and a great start to the con year.

    Lir.

Hmmmm, I'll try not to be biased, but since i'm in Warps.....

I was trolling wargames all weekend aswell as competing, iow no breaks!! Wargames started on Sat at 9.30 btw Lir, but we had a seperate venue (still on campus, it's the mini-restaraunt over the main one :) ). Also us staff were down there at 9, so we were well prepared.

The con was amazing! 44 warhammer 40k gamers, 6 fantasy plus various ogre etc. Also over 10,000 euro was raised in the charity auction, including 2000 euro for 3 women who would do anything!(med students raising money for hospitals in africa).

All in all, I really enjoyed it, it was a pleasure to staff which is a nice change, and kudos to jaarius for the job well done!
