Hmm well better have my spam before the evil oppressors clamp down on us... power to the people...:D

I like the old stuff, Led Zep, Motorhead, Black Sabbath etc (I'm classifying that stuff as metal, feel free to disagree) and I don't mind a bit of Metallica but personally I can't stand Cradle of Filth (sorry but Dani Filth is about as scary as a anaesthatised hamster with its teeth and claws removed which has dedicated its life to pacifism) which according to Dani is 'funk' anyway. Also I hurl enormous gobbets of phlegm at the commercial 'Nu-Metal' ****e EG Linkin Park, Alien Ant Farm and (hehe) Limp Bizkit (hehe) which should be taken off the shelves labelled "Metal" and put with the "Kid's TV show theme tunes" where they belong, along with the other hard-core metallers like Big Bird and Tinky-Winky.
Finally I'm not really a big fan of 'serious' metal these days seeing as it seems to be more a "Let's be a cliched stereotype" contest than a genre, with people from Sheffield and Norway battling to see who has the longest beard.

    Raaa.

Of course! Sabbath and Motorhead started metal!
Led Zep, more of a 'Rock' band in my view.

But, as I am fond of saying: Art is opinion, never fact.

I think this is an interesting thread, though.
And maybe if we lay back on the spam and flames, it could be quite a good discussion.

    Anyway...

LINKIN PARK AND PAPA ROACH RULE!
Now off to hang around some shopping mall with all my fellow 14 year old friends, and toss names at the norms for "Opressing" us. Grrr...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭Zaphod Beeblebrox

Yeah those damn Norms... all looking the same... cliched...stereotypes...all dressing the same... not like us metalheads at all ;):p;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

    Yeah... I mean... Pff...

    Silly idjits...

I for one amn't going to be dressing to some steriotype... Fkin norms...

Anyway... Where'd I put my baggy jeans, and addidas runners?
Oh yeah, there they are... Beside my Slipknot hoodie.

Once dressed in out bootleg Korn hoodies we can hang around the Spanish Arch and fall off our skateboards doing the hideously difficult "getting onto it" trick.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭screamager

ah...are u's the superior metallers i've heard so much about? the ones that dress in a way that shows they're metallers/goths without falling into any sterotype? i'd love to meet you's some day. have you mentioned the music them kids listen to even once in this post? isnt that what matters? or are you's too busy trying to be more alternative than the alternative?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

The thing that amazes me is who decides what is 'alternative' and what has sold out? OK some things are obvious, pop crap, etc, but if they don't follow any rules and don't listen to anyone, how can they criticise ppl for not following them?;)

    :D

But then again, I'd prefer to be in a room full of freaky goth types than a room full of scum-bag ravers.
Granted the goths would probably cut you up and drink your blood :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Whereas the scumbags would just cut you up.

Exactly, they'd cut you up and rob your wallet :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yeah, I mean... At least the Goths would have the decency not to rob you.

"Its better to burn out, than fade away"

I'll forgive you the cliché that's written on every mildly disgruntled 14 year olds school bag, but misspelling false deity Kurt Cobain's name is unforgiveable,

Are you any way serious about trying to look deep, pensive and "not one of the herd"?

    PORNAPSTER - didn't u mean nu-metal and nu-metalheads?
    ah, sure they're harmless.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 245 ✭✭Shorty

I'd just like to point out that the Kurgen in Highlander uses that same quote, and that film predates Kurt Cobain.

Man Harry on aintItCool.com would be proud of ya for knowing that.

Nope... I meant proper metalheads that are into Slayer etc. But there was an odd bit of sarcasm that put us off course...

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,563 Mod ✭✭✭✭Robbo

...As opposed to the non-proper ones who *aren't* into Slayer? :)

God be with the days when being angry wasn't a commodity good. Sometime about 33 A.D. perhaps?

"Its better to burn out, than fade away"

    Touche.

Neil Young had a song quite a long time ago call My My, Hey Hey in which the lyrics, I think, first appeared. I may stand corrected though.

Sorry if I'm on a tangent here folks but it looks like everyone else here is too.

Tell ye what pronapster. I'm listening to David Bowie ("Ziggy Stardust") right now ... yet you'll find me in Bruxelles rock-bar most weekends. I've been listening to metal for about the last .. oh ... 12 years. Am I any less a "metalhead" than you?
