My music collection at home is big enough but I am bored with it now. Are there any good bands out there that are doing innovative bits of music ?

I am sick of all these slightly indy guitar bands that to me all sound the same. I want something fresh. I don't care what genre it is once its not pop.

Electronica, HipHop, Metal or any other type once its refreshing is good for me.

All I seem to be doing lately is playing Sigur Ros, Boards of Canada, Radiohead , Dead Prez, various bits of french hiphop with the odd bit of Nailbomb thrown in to stir things up.

I didn't think I'd say it but the 9000 mp3s on this computer are not keeping me entertained anymore.

Mountain Men Anonymous are quite good for a bit of post-rock and the angel of the universe soundtrack (ok so i know it features Sigur Ros but there is some good stuff on it)

    cheers

By looking at the list of music you're listening to I can see why your bored of it.

    For new stuff, check out:
    Slash's Snakepit - Ain't Life Grand

To be honest there isn't much else that's come out recently in my opinion that has been very original.

Go back and listen to some old stuff.

    Try Sulpher... They're ****ing brilliant.

Unfortunatly... Their debut album isn't gonna be out for at least another month.
But, you can check them out at: www.mp3.com/sulpher

Really great industrial band, pretty original.

Killing Miranda are also great, I'd reconmend them. I got their album in Tower.
Wierd gothic/industrial metal band. Very good, and pretty varied.

And I really can't say enough good things about Opeth. Get their new album Blackwater park.
It's extremely inteligent and complex music though, so don't expect to like it on first listen.
Took me quite a bit to get into.

Any tool album but especially "Aenima", you will never need to buy another album again.

Nobody is reinventing the guitar at the moment but there is alot of good stuff at the moment. Rammsteins' "Mutter" is another album that is well worth your investment.

If you are after innovative stuff track down Trans-Siberian Orchestra "Beethovens Last Night" is well worth a listen and they do some classic rock epics on christmas songs on earlier albums "Christmas Eve"

Next time you are asking for new music at least be more specific :p

    Electronica - Sex, Mum

    HipHop - Creative Controle

If you haven't already have a look at Leftfield, The Beta Band, NPB, Frank Zappa, Badly Drawn Boy, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed

Rage against the Machine are ****ing good, first album (which is self titled) is probly the best. Battle of Los Angeles would be next and Renagades is a just covers of some pritty good songs.

    Rammstein - Sehensucht

is quite good also, although not as good as mutter

I've also become quite partial to Feeder as of late and (imo) SuperGrass are well worth a look at too.

Already have heard Tool, RATM, Slashs Snakepit

Some of the suggestions sound good. I'll try the Goth stuff cos I'm polite and will give anyone a chance...

    good music eh?

well i have to say that the Hive's latest album[though it is a compilation of previous work] is really good

sell your granny if you have to, to get a copy of the strokes debut album.

Radiohead's OK Computer album is still my favourite CD.

the revolver album by the Beatles is how all music sould be:innovative, articulate and sound great decades after completion.

    have a look-see for yourself on audiogalaxy.com

    hehehe good choice :p

try some Zyklon (the band...not the gas), brutal death metal with a hint of Frank Sinatra

  • Registered Users Posts: 898 ✭✭✭Winning Hand

Angelwhore, if you get the chance see Rammstein live. They blow everyone else out of the water.

Also check out their video for "Ich Will", bit unPC at the moment but it kicks ass.

Incidentially Marcus if you havent yet bought Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells II you really are missing out.

Aye, Zyklon are class. I was just listening to them again over the last couple of days.
Thought it was more technical death/black metal.

Righto downloading some of the recommendations now. Gotta love the unused 20mb line here. :p

So far theres some good tunes, have to say though that I don't like the Opeth type music at all.

    Seriously... Give it time.
I hated it at first. But once you get into it, it's simply unbeleivable.
