If the company were unwilling to supply the product on DVDs only, they could supply a special DVD edition of GTA3 with extras such as the radio stations, as well as regular CD-ROM versions.

Nah. When (and if) it comes out on PC I'm confident that it will definitely be in a position to take on the PS2 version - I'd rather spend my money on an upgrade. I've never been into consoles - I could type out a whole list of cons easily (one being that console games are more expensive than PC ones) but thats another argument altogether, one I'm not willing to get into.

Careful - you just called a lot of people silly :)

Its definitely a great game, but when you're used to very smooth framerates in excess of 60, the PS2 version just doesn't cut it in terms of FPS. This is definitely a matter of taste, this is solely MY opinion.

The bottom line: If it comes out on PC, it'll be a great game and an improvement on the PS2 version IF the developers pull it off right. I'm sure they're well on their way with the PC GTA3 code, since magazine previews have had hold of PC beta versions.

So a very big "if" then.

I don't know where you got that idea from, but it's absolutely not true. There has been NOTHING of the PC version released - no screens, no footage, and DEFINITELY no beta code. However a number of PC mags have previewed the game based on the PS2 version.

Mags are unscrupulous like that, look at the number that reviewed MGS2 based on the demo...

In my opinion there is no way GTA3 will be ported to the PC anytime soon and still retain the same quality of graphics. Clearly the average spec machine won't cope with GTA3 as it stands now. The whole DVD issue would likely be resolved by reducing the number of station data and/or compressing them into mp3's etc... except un-encoding mp3's at runtime is a waste of cpu power. GTA3 seems to have been programmed on a licenced engine... specifically made for the PS2. Unless there is a PC port of this engine which allows for switching off of effects (blur etc), can magically reduce the amount of polygons without needing to redo the art and can still manage the same level of phsyics then I doubt GTA3 will arrive on the comparatively sales weak pc platform. If something does come out, it will be a poormans version of a game that is simply made for the ps2.

On the matter of frame rates, GTA3 is about gameplay - who cares if you notice framerate drop a little, most people are too busy enjoying the game to notice. Yes more framerates can lead to a better game experience - but it doesn't compare to actually having a good game. Hell, I used to play Frontier Elite on the Amiga at .4 frames per second and loved every minute of it.. but I was probably the extreme. If the game is playable and obviously great, not liking it due to low frame rates is an example of PC owner weirdness.... I remember how No-One Lives Forever was somehow slated all over the internet for low frame rates. To me low is 10 fps, not 25.. and its the best first person shooter ever imo.

This is the reply that nobody can deny (hey it even rhymes!)

    PS2 + 32" Panasonic Widescreen TV + 40W Stereo speakers + GTA3 = :)
    PC + 15" Monitor +GTA3 = :(

Who gives a **** about tech specs and all that, gameplay is what matters. Anyone who worries about that is completely missing the point.

Yeah I'm stuck too. On the first island, the mission you do for tony, where you have to waste the triad ringleaders. You get two mafia guys to help you, but I keep getting wasted.

    Any tips?

I *think* its one of the last missions on portland. At the moment triads shoot me on sight when I drive by :) You have to go to 3 locations and waste the triad leader at each. One of them is their fish plant where you have to rob one of their vans to get in.

    That ring any bells?

That's about half-way through the here's a couple of tough ones there, the fun really starts when you get to Staunton Island though!

Isnt there like some gas tanks or something you can blow up?
Anyway, running them down always works :)

Munch, run the first group over with your car..... get out and get good at aiming to take out the second bunch (go in with armour if you can) and then get any fish van, go inside their base and run over the third set. Its not very hard... think the only problem is learning how to aim with the gun.

Celt, you just spoiled the idea for the next mission that he will try :P

Jabba - the porno mission isn't necessary to advance... so you shouldn't be stuck but heres a tip for doing it anyway - you DON'T have to pick up all the porno... so don't go back for any you've missed - its just to give you more time. You should be able to do the mission easy enough under those circumstances.

tnx greenbean. I know it aint necessary but i just wanna do it :)

Jabba just can't help himself when it comes to collecting donkey porn!

In my opinion, the best way to do that mission, munch, is to mow them down. You've probably done it by now though. Follow Greenbean's advice if necessary :).

I completed the storyline for GTA3 on Wednesday, I've completed all the phone missions for Staunton Island but haven't done any phone missions for either of the other two islands. Still got plenty to do yet :).

I completed GTA3 2 weeks ago - and im still playing the damn thing! The last mission is where you [Spoil the game utterly for everyone else, apparently]

Ive completeed all the missions so now im working on completeing all Rampages, Hidden Packages, and Unique Jumps.

So far ive found 72 Hidden packages, and found 16 Unique Jumps.

Now for some (not very good) tips:

    1. Collect hidden pacakages! - For every 10 you find you get a free weapon at your base!

    2. Unique Jumps are worth a lot of cash. It goes up in multiples of 5,000 for every jump you do

    3. When you complete the game go to the army base on Staunton Island to ride in your tank!

    4. On 6 stars thhe cops, FBI, and the army will be after you! tough!

    5. Ye know about the prostitute trick right...........????

If ye want to know the location of some of the Unique Jumps just say so.

I just made it onto Staunton Island earlier... it seems a HELL of a lot harder to navigate my way around there than on portland. Nice cars though :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 734 ✭✭✭Trev

You'll soon get used to Staunton Island Munch, it's the island i can navigate round the best. I know it like the back of me hand :).

Oh, nicely done Chucky, you've made Swifty and a lot of people cry.

How does knowing what the final mission is detract from playing the rest of the game?

Presumably some people would rather not get the resolution of the plotline handed to them in a web forum but would prefer to Play The Damn Game.

Where does that tell me how being told the last of 74 missions in a game with a mission based plot detract from the other 73 missions?
Is he using hidden text or something.....?
