    Ok heres my problem

I'm on a network and i use win 2k I've got folders shared but users of windows 98/95 can't access them, when they double click my computer they are prompted for a password.

Is there any way I can remove that need for them to have a password because i havent set one.

they have to log into there machines as guest. then they can access them using guest guest. i not sure of any other way around it.

guest guest is the default username and pword for users to access a win2k machine. u can set individual passwords for each share inside then. but if you have a share with permissions for username jimbob then win98/95 machines have to login as jimbob on there machines in order to access them. Thats my interpretation of it anyway so i'm open to correction.

just create a local account and give them the password.
not sure what it is. off hand id say ntfs file permissions.
are the folders/files shared to everyone?

right the problem is there's more than 1 user i'd have to make a load of accounts.

the prompt the user is given askes for a password, without the username, and win2k specifically needs a username so it takes the one the user logged into his/her computer with, I just want to remove this passwordy thing alotogether.

are the folders shared out to everyone?
    is it an ntfs partition?

you could try putting all systems on same workgroup

    Right
I think I've found the problem, the guest account in win2k is by default disabled, so i've enabled it, apparently its the account that covers any username trying to get in so without a password it should let win 95/95 users into my machine, I'll let you know how it goes i haven't tested it yet.

You have to change your network identifcation thing y I think.

I somehow managed it the other weekend between my Win2k and Mikill's Win98First Ed.
Told it the PC was to be used on a business netowrk or something. No domain used.

We tried using Guest at the GL2 aswell, but it was very hit and miss.

    what about mapping drives?

Could you list (in as much detail as possible) the settings you had? Thanks.
It's a royal pain in the ass trying to setup a bit of casual leeching when you have every possible drive shared but it won't let you log in......... :(

My Win2K is giving me woeful grief. Just reinstalled after I got the 'Bluse Screen of Exception Errors in NTOS.EXE and boot' and could do f*uck all.
I think I should do a low-level format but I can't find the discs. What's worse i forgot to burn off my RTCW savegames. Anyone have any level skip cheats? I need to get bac to the caves under the ceremony thinggummy. Have the tesla and every other weapon.

SHíT, you mean its all just abou turning Guest access on. And to think that there I was spending days adding requests from my workmates to add them to the uerlist on my laptop (I got 2000+ MP3's, thats why)

Ah well, you live and learn!! ;-)

right syx this is exactly what i did =>

    1. start button
    2. Settings
    3. Control Panel
    4. Users and Passwords
    5. Click on the advanced tab at the top of the Users and Passwords window thingy
    6. Clicked on the "Advanced" button in the "Advanced User Managment" box
    7. Clicked on "Users" on the left ( just under the Local Users and Groups (local) thingy )
    8. Doubled Clicked on Guest on the right.
    9. Got rid of the correct mark filling the box entitled "Account is disabled"

pressed ok, clicked the x on a couple of windows/programs and found myself back at the desktop but now then on a computer which was shared to all.

Had the exact same problem at a LAN over the weekend.
Enabling the guest account on the win2k PC will allow the win95/98 PC's to access the shares.
