Seems to be on Sky One at 4pm these days, don't know if it's been on long. Haven't noticed it anyways.

Is the series still going ? I kind of lost interest after Wade, the Prof. and Quinn left. The former porn star's perky jabs aren't enough to keep me glued to the show anymore :)

yeah i used to watch it if it was on, early on it wasn't bad; good opportunities for interesting story lines. Occasionally i've seen newer series of it on sky1 or other channels, but its seemed rather ****. The storylines can be pretty poor, along with the acting, and the character cast is almost completely changed (they brought back Quinn i think, only its a different actor  ).

Oh well, its better than Pokémon or Sally Jessie or whatever Sky used to show at 4pm.

kaids ur mod of the scifi board because you don't like any scifi???

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 2,968 Mod ✭✭✭✭LoGiE

The show was cancelled by fox who created seasons 1-3 but got picked up by the sci-fi channel who made a fourth and fifth season and thats when it came to an end. I enjoyed some of the early episodes ie first&Second season but it's the third season there showing on sky one and the story lines are rubbish check out this link

you dont have to like the area the board covers to mod it. you just need to moderate.

Now that i'v though about it a little more, its prolly a good idea to have someone like Kaids around too, kaids offers a more objective view to sci-fi where i just like anything sci-fi/fantasy related :)and am less inclined to condemn, or pick out the weak points in a sci-fi movie or series.

Damn slydice, that post just ruined my day :(

Back on topic, i saw another Sliders episode there on Friday i think it was, as usual the storyline/acting/props weren't exactly fantastic but it was quite entertaining nonetheless.

Anyway sliders, i never really followed it but i seen an old episode a week or two ago. The costumes were all colourful n plasticy, don't like that, can't really understand why sci-fi's often feature these. The story line was ok and they threw in a bit of science so i was happy enough with it.

The best had to be the one where the guys were "made" breed with all those women, the one where iraq had let loose the man killing virus or somtin

I love Sliders but season 5 made me cry, especially the first episode of season 5 where they have possibly the two worst excuses ever for killing off characters

"Unstuck in space time" and two Quinn's being combined into one very bad actor, WTF!

The first two seasons were really good. The alternative realities were interesting for their "what if" scenarios and I cared for the characters and their fates (Wade's capture was fairly upsetting). It started going downhill in the 3rd season, with the "movie of the week" episodes and the Professor leaving. The fourth season was a bit all over the shop story wise. I like to pretend the 5th season never happened.

When it started, sliders was great, it had some fantastic "what if" scenarios (russkies in the US was one of my favourites.

What happened was (I checked on Wikipedia), after two seasons, the original creator left because of problems with the studio interfering. As well s this, the production was moved from Canada to LA (or something, it might have been from San Fransisco to LA), and the studio insisted on more "sci-fi"ish episodes, cue the Kromags (dear God!) and other tripe.

Combined with pretty much all the original cast leaving and the show repeatadly "jumping the shark", by the end it was a shadow of it's fomer self.

I didn't mind the kromags so much... there was a bit of a need for a "bad guy", otherwise it was just episode after episode with no continuity really. Plus it kinda made sense that if one person developed the sliding technology then so would someone else in another dimension. It just kept adding twists to the same concept, which is what sliders was all about.

The newer episodes are pure muck though... nearly as bad as Blade the series :p

For whatever reason, something recently reminded me about the beginning of an episode of Sliders. When they 'slid' into one particular planet, everyone was finding oil in their back gardens and subsequently becoming millionaires. But surely... if everyone had oil fields in their back-garden, then it wouldn't be so valuable and so on

    Ah Sliders...
