dvd and laptop

i've got a dell latitude laptop with a toshiba dvd drive. the s/w i've installed tells me that i need a dvd-to-go card to watch dvd movies. can i just install a different s/w player? MiCr0 any one else had this problem?

if u saw the amount of dns stuff i have to do!!!
it will be a busy couple of weeks
and no movie watching in work either
