Well it's January now and all us students should be settling in to our new year or new college (in the case of first years).

So what do ye think of your college or year so far?

First years, did it live up to all the hype and was it like the prospectus lead you to believe?

[edit]Bugger! This was meant to be in College Work. Any Mod feel like moving it?[/edit]

Unfortunately the post X-mas college return brings about the time of year when project work starts to weigh heavily on you.

On the plus side, getting away from home before the x-mas dial-up bill arrives is a big bonus.

I'm enjoying my course, but ****ed up with money, and the lack of it. Work isnt getting on top of me too much......... I only have one project to do at the moment, so things are fine.

K, I'm near the end of college, but I do remember the beginning....

I remember doing Electronic Enginnering, and thinking it was the most impossible course on the planet, except for the computer related modules. Lecturers told us that the class will shrink by at least 50% every year. Would you believe 50% had left by January in their first year. I stuck it out, and managed to get enough in my exams to apply for a transfer to Computer Science. Done!!.

CS, IMO was easy, and proposed little difficulty. But I was not going out as much back then. In CS, the lecturers still rambled on about the 50% thing, but it's not that bad. You can always tell the people that are going to make it, and the ones that are not!. Who am I to judge?, but when it's in your face obvious, it's not that hard.

My point is that, if you are worrying too much at an early stage, it is because of either two things:
    1. You are socialising too much
    2. You are probably in the wrong course, and don't have the interest you predicted.

Consider what I've said, because I find it soooo true for many students out there (incl. myself). It becomes easier to hang on, the further you go. You will also gain the respect of your mentors, and no longer be reffered to as the number on your college ID.

But if things go pear shaped, don't worry. It's not the end of the world. In recent years I have started to believe that things always work out in the end, no matter what. :)

Only have a few mins spare here in class, and was reading this....very well said phobo's. If your finding the course hard and having problems at this early stage (half way thru first year) then its probably not the course for you, i'm doing CS and loving it can't wait to get into second year and at some serious programming....lol....laterz

Could be better, got lower hours/week this year but I'm not enjoying it as much. Too much thermal physics theory make nesf something something....
