    Very dubious.

Sounds like they convert everything to .mpg or similar format and go from there. Obviously these 'DVD's would not be playable in your home TV DVD player. Did you see any fine print? :)

probably converts the movie to VCD format which will play in most good DVD players (and any PC with software)

You can't burn DVD's in a CD-RW, also DVD Burners for computers have all been doctored not to burn movies.

    ^ what hobbes said.

I did hear some of these discs don't even have stuff like DVDx or Flask on them, just a few pages of "how to" and shortcuts to doom9.

Theres a very odd little made-up format being bandied around called MiniDVD, which is basically a MPEG2 VOB that is small enough to fit on a CD, it gives around 15 mins at DVD quality using the same formats. But very few home players are compatable so DivX is still a better choice.

FYI Nero 5.5 can burn DVD's, and there are some free utils out there for converting to MPEG2/DVD movie format. I just picked up a HP 100i DVD+RW drive and will be installing it at the weekend. Its mainly for backing up home DV movies but of course Im going to see if I can master a normal movie, so I'll let ye know how the test goes if ye want.

Okey doke, used Nero 5.5.7.2, Direct-Copy from a Pioneer16x DVD to the Hp 100j and it worked fine. The source was FatBoy Slims 'Demons' single. WOuldnt play in the folks Panasonic Rv40 (BUt it isnt on the official DVD+RW list anyway) but worked on the Sony DVP 9000es.
Havent tried creating one from scratch yet.
