Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As those you who still watch RTÉ are aware, they've started an new initiative to include ratings for certain programs... i.e. suitable for what age groups etc.

I seen this for the first time on Tuesday nite i think it was, then was incredibly surprised Wednesday morning when i turned on RTÉ 1 at 9:00am and seen two sea lions tearing into each other... fangs n blood, nothing held back. The a little further on the dominant male receives his reward n they show him shaggin the females!

At 9:00am! I thought it a strange decision to show such material in the morning when young kids could and probably were watching! your opinion?

    I think it's a good idea.

    MA = Mature Audience, etc.

Ya i agree thats a good idea, but showing big blubbery animals fighting and shagging at 9am!!!

Just another example of the Nanny State mentality, I'm afraid.

Its not like RTE screen anything likely to offend on grounds of
nudity, sexual scenes etc. They could Rate Q & A though,
    suitible for no-one at all.

WHAT?!.. NNOOOO!!!!... REMOTE!!! REMOTE!!!

I'd hate to think some little kid was watching that.

I'd hate to think some little kid was watching that.

I flicked up past Discovery the other night and they were showing a brain operation of some kind. I managed to make it through about ten minutes of it (after flicking off the sound - -the electric saw slicing through the skull was just a little too much.

So you don't need harcore porn to make a show unsuitable for kids.

    Your all pussys:D :D
Goodshape-I think your refering to the Sex Sense programme on Discovery.Though it does have close ups of tits good enough to make you hard and even once had some lesbo screwing:) id hardly describe it as hardcore. Its nudity with alot of touching but theres no real sex is there?Good show though when your feeling down:D

thats not a patch on french television. I was watching a comedy sketch show at 8.30 AM. It was extremely funny actuall; they took the piss out of the Pop Idol show that was all over French television at the time and it was classic.

But in one of the sketches a guy comes up to a little teddy bear. He kisses the teddy on the nose. Then the teddy mastrubates. I was watching TV and thinking..no.. he's not doing what it looks like. There must be some mistake!

"Foreign" telly is full of filth, one afternoon i was flicking around and settled on SAT 1 for a while, this was at about 4.30 and was'nt thier a "feature" on topless dancing complete with topless dancers...SAT 1 used to be full of moments like that.

Sceptre, I believe that the show you are refering to is 'The Operation'.

This programme airs at about 2am and is suitably graphic. Any 'kid' up after 9pm, let alone 2am, will of course see this type of material on television.

That is absolutely brilliant!!!!!! You see them do some of the maddest stuff. It's like AH NO!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!!! YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO CUT THAT!!!!! But then at the end the patient is fine and looks much better, and it's like 'holy shít!'. I remember seeing an eye operation...ewwwww. :D

I think this whole ratings thing could be utilised much further. Imagine it. Each family member gets a specfic login - one or both of the parents have the 'root' login, which can modify the other users' dates of birth and maybe some specifics on what they can and cannot watch. When a program comes one marked 'MA' and your 10 year-old is logged in, it automatically blocks it and displays a message. Each programme is also given an ID number, so if you don't mind your 8 year old daughter watching Friends then you can specifiy that as an 'allowed' programme.
Ah, the possibilities of digital tv :)

Saw the eye operation one - watched that the whole way through (I've obviously got a problem with drills, saws and skulls theat people are still using being in the same scene)

Fair point on the 2am thing

At least RTE aren't going the ITV way and editing their shows to fit the audience (not that they have the money to) - watching "Coming to America" was never the same again (though that bit on ITV in Beverly Hills Cop where Eddie Murphy told the captain to "get the fish out of here" was the funniest thing I'd seen it weeks

One of the owrst thing which scarred me for life was seeing those Indian/eastern/pacific rim ppl witht he hooks in their backs.
A friend and I caught a glimpse of it and I've had 'problems' with that sort of stuff since. Can't stand self-mutilation to taht extreme. Don't mind ear piercing or tatoos.

The rating thing is just an emulation of American TV (which sucks balls big time - I had to put up with it for 3 weeks straight), which is sad.
They're axing Blizzard of Odd. Muppets. Next it'll be Podge & Rodge.
Eastenders comes on RTÉ and suddenly the suicide rates in Ireland go up 25%. Coincidence?
