If one was working in the east point business park, where would be the handiest place to live?

Anywhere on the DART or Nothern suburban lines really, there is (was?) a feeder bus from Clontarf Road DART Station. Connolly Station (access to mainline trains, DART, Suburban & soon LUAS) is a fair walk away (but see buses below).

    Alternatively, buses that serve anywhere in the north-east city pass close by in Fairview (127 / 129 / 130 / 20B / 27 / 27B / 27C / 27X / 29A / 29N / 31 / 31A / 31B / 31N / 32 / 32A / 32B / 32X / 42A / 42N - some of these services are quite limited, but others are excellent). All these buses pass Connolly Station.

As regards renting, I imagine there are quite a few places that are rented out in the IFSC (apartments) and the East Wall (ex-council houses) areas.

Long term, East Point will be at the city end of the port access tunnel (to airport)

Well the closest residential areas (within easy walking distance) would be East Wall, Clontarf, Marino, Fairview. It's beside a Dart Station so anywhere along the line is ok too, and it's close to all the bus routes mentioned above, so it's pretty easy to get to.
