im doing a project on this at the moment in college,
basically the "last mile" is sustituted by means of wireless communcaion eg radio waves, form the exchange to the subscriber. this is bad news for eircom if this is rolled out in ireland.(HEH HEH HEH !!!!!!) Your talkin about mega bytes in downloading.
The advantage of the Wireless Local Loop, it eliminates monopoly.

I actually have a WLL phone line installed. When it works, it's fine, but it's just a common-or-garden 64k connection, which translates to about 48k dialup.

On that note: it's currently not working. I reported a fault (no dialtone) on Friday. I checked up again yesterday, and I was told it's an exchange fault, with no ETA on the repair. Sigh.

Oh, and it was Eircom who supplied it.
