It's so sad to see 3dfx go down like that.
But I think they just lost thier edge... instead of making faster GPUs they just started smacking 10 of 'em on to one board!
It was bound to happen.
Let's just remember the good times, eh?

strange i thought just a month ago that 3dfx won a technology licencing case against Nvidia which would have resulted in a bit of a cash settlement.

It wasn't decided and it has been dropped now that nVidia have bought over some of 3dfx.

I think their big mistake was to start manufacturing the whole boards, and not just the chips.
