dial-up problems

I've got problems with a 3Com PC modem. Most of the time it refuses to let me connect any faster than 19.2k but up to a few months ago, I got consistent 40k connections from my home dial-up. I've reinstalled TCP/IP, my dial-up adapter, and the modem drivers. I can use another PC card modem (like the wireless one I'm on now) and everything is fine. I can use the 3Com card for a LAN connection and that works grand.

Any ideas on how I can make the dial-up connect at the speeds it used to give me?

    thanks in advance . . .
