PHP question regarding files traversing directories for other files

Anyone know if there's a way of getting the current directory under PHP

I've got pages that need to know where they are so that they know where toi go to find specific pages in other directories

eg.

/file1
/folder1/file1 -> ../file1
/folder1/file2/folder2/dbaseConnectfile

/file1 is calling the dbaseConnectfile, but what about /folder1/file1 ??

Any thoughts?
