Just got my NTL 512k cable install. A 4meg MP3 in 60 seconds is about the norm. I couldnt believe streaming video movie trailers from www.quicktime.com.

If its available in your area get it in!.

PS anyone out there had any luck in setting up Terayon CM under Linux

It is not available in my part of Dublin yet.
What part of town are you in ?

    What are the costs ?
What are download restrictions (if any) ?

Have you tried connecting another nic to the linux box, make sure it is recognised by the kernel, connecting the cm to the nic and then just run the dhcp client on the card

4 Megs in 60 seconds ... the holy grail!

tbh I would rather go with cable, there seem to be much less restrictions imposed on it than adsl.

Im in an eligable area but i amnt sure about prices and such. People keep quoting me different stuff. Can you please clear up how much it is, do you have to buy the modem etc.,

This is the prices in punts

The modem is £130 if you buy it off NTL

You need an installation, the fee for that is £50

You need a networkcard, which they can supply aswell, £20

Thats £200 to be set up,

I think you get one months free acess,

then after that its £25 a month.

I wonder when the rest of us will be able to get 4 megs in 60 seconds?

    Indeed.

Well, you might keep an eye out for the pigs with wings while you're waiting... :)

Actually, there's hints that although there's a long way to go yet, some progress is being made. Don't lose faith entirely. Just almost entirely.

    Ok rumour control.......Wednesday 20/02/20

    1. NTL offer a cable modem svce in parts of Dublin 16, 6W and 24.
    2. The choice is 128k or 512k always on
    3. No Download Cap.
    4. It normally costs 130 pounds for modem and 70 quid for install however NTL are doing it at the moment for free and renting the modem for 5 euro.
    5. The modem is a Terayon 210 usb and ethernet.
    6. The IP is assigned by DHCP with a very long lease
    7. There are no ports blocked by the provider so its up to the user to firewall.
    8. The install is done by a 3rd party company.
    9. Its fast...very fast...4meg Mp3 in 60 seconds
    10. I have it.

    Thank you
