Bart Bonsall, former chief executive of cable TV group Chorus, has joined the Ardagh brothers' European Access Providers (EAP), as their new chief executive.

Rory and Charlie Ardagh were spectacular victims of the dotcom downturn when Formus Communications collapsed last year. The brothers sold their 20% stake in the broadband access provider they set up to Denver-based Formus in a deal which made them paper millionaires.

Formus subsequently pulled a planned Nasdaq flotation, and its Irish operation was left owing creditors €21m.

The brothers, sons of Fianna Fail TD Sean Ardagh, are now going back into the same area of business, after dusting themselves down and attracting investors into their new operation.

EAP is being renamed LEAP Broadband, and will shortly launch a broadband wireless DSL network aimed at the Dublin SME market.
