    http://www.softsecurity.com/download.html

This is free to download but it will put up a warning screen on windows bootup saying that it is in use....if ur trying to catch someone using your own machine then just leave the machine running and they won't be aware of it.

If thats a problem then try putting "keylogger" into astalavista.box.sk and there are numerous programs there that will do the job...but be prepared to fight the popups and porn.

WinGuardian is excellent! Nobody will know its there. Virtually undetectable.

Not free, though completely usable for 15 days use if this is all you need. After 15 days it even uninstalls itself so vanishing from existence.

And if you like it you can always buy it. (Stuff like this is ALWAYS handy to have in your toolbox.)

There is a woman who is stalking my boyfriend. They have worked together on projects & in the past he has opened attachments from her - photos, documents etc.

I am certain she has installed a remote keylogger on his computer and am trying to help him find it. I know they run in stealth mode, but there has got to be some way to find it.

I understand the concept - keyloggers email the contents of everything he types to her. That means she's got passwords to all his email accounts etc., which in essence means that she can also read all his incoming mail by using the webmail feature at his ISP.

    Three questions:

    1. How do you find the keylogger on his computer?
    2. How do you determine the email address the contents are being sent to? (that is going to be needed when we drag her fat ass into court)
    3. Have any of you heard about lawsuits or criminal charges filed against people who set up stealth keyloggers without permission?

Thank you for anything you can tell me about this.

if someone has a firewall, wouldn't that hinder it emailing back and stuff ...?
the whole idea of keyloggers is depressing :(

No, they sneak behind firewalls, no problem.

This thread was started by someone who wants to use a keylogger on a remote computer. What is the motivation for that? A relationship in trouble, maybe - or a stalker? Or maybe some kind of legitimate need to see what is happening on a that computer? What could be a legitimate reason for setting up a stealth keylogger on an unsuspecting person's computer?

I'll try to find any court cases involving keyloggers and will post the information here if I find something. In my case, if I can prove the fact that this woman has set one up on my boyfriend's machine, I am totally serious about going to court about it. The stalking has gone on for years, but this is totally over the top.

Sorry this probably isn't the right place to post this but I need a keylogger thats free and runs in stealth mode. Nothing too fancy. Its actually quite important but I don't want to say why.
Er ... Stonebruise .. where does it say that the keylogger that daveirl is looking for is to be used on a remote computer ?

Also you say that "the woman" sent him a picture or word document that loaded a keylogger? er ... how is that going to happen? .. and I would be VERY VERY surprised if a keylogger could get anything past a proper firewall ...

As for finding out if the keylogger is running, "all" you have to do is go through each and every task that is running and find out what they are ....

Some keyloggers run under the RUNDLL so wont be clearly visible.
2 ways of finding it ,one go tru regedit and find it there.
    Or Format C:/ in dos.
A reinstall will find it and wipe it :)

I'd presume this is in a work situation, where everyone is behind a company firewall and theres generally no need for personal firewalls..

However to detect it (if it is indeed being sent) a firewall would probably be the best bet, something like Tiny Personal Firewall will show what applications are using what ports and you should be able to pinpoint the offending program executable or dll easily that way.
