Computer file associated poblem.. pleas help..

Hey ya... ok doky, this is a wierd thing thats after poping up on my computer.. it is that some files of mine have been duplicated into some wierd script file or somthing its a very small file but it looks like i dont need it for any thing and for my jpgs, it has totaly taken over them, and i cant view them, it has duplicated all of my mp3s as well in to its type.. its really strange now each time i delete the script copy files of my mp3s it doesnt effect my mp3s or anything but when i restart my machine they are all back again .. i think the problem started after i installed quick time or somthing but since then i have removed quick time and these files still apear ... any help please?? ...

Hmmm...
Something's duplicating your mp3s and jpgs?
Making info files about them, maybe storing info about them in files of the same name?
What file extension are these files?
What size are they?
Try opening them in notepad, see what exactly is in these files...

If you're using Win98, you could possibly narrow down the program doing it by running 'msconfig.exe'... go to the startup tab and see if there's anything suspicious there.

Have you any antivirus software ? Download some now from grisoft.com because you are indeed infected.

open the vbs up in notepad.. take a quick look down through it, and even with the most basic programming skills you should be able to figure out what it does... this helps a lot in finding out whats gone on.

its probably replaced all your jpgs with itself... and made your mp3s readonly (i had the exact same/very similar one a while back)..

do a Find for all jpg/mp3 files matching that above size (9k)... delete them all, delete all vbs files of the same size on the HD (all partitions) as well...

that or download a virus checker.. pants to that though, they make my pc go too slow.

i lost close to 400mb of jpgs (all work related thank you).. when this hit me.... luckily i had most of my important stuff as .clr/.eps/.png templates, so nothing unreplacable was gone, and i backup fairly regularly.
