I can't quote the whole page or site sadly.
A pre-arranged taxi is the best way to travel between the hotel and various destinations in and around the city. Minibus taxis, recognizable by their bright colors, should be avoided completely, as they are one of the most dangerous forms of public transportation still in use.

Self-driving is not encouraged due to the high rate of carjackings.

It is best to arrange for daytime arrivals to South African airports to minimize the risk driving between the airport and the hotel.

Tap water safe. Medical care in major cities good, widely available. Doctors/hospitals may require immediate payment. Only swim where other bathers are present. Diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and hepatitis are risks in rural areas, including game parks. Consult a physician prior to departure if planning travel outside urban areas.

Most of the travel watch report (I can read) goes into avoiding taxi's altogether as there are wars between one or more companies that has involved gun battles between drivers. Also avoid public transport like buses, and try to avoid nighttime travel.

    Recommends tour-groups.

Remember that you will be travelling in the southern winter and that it may get relatively cold. Although, I understand it has only snowed in Jo'burg twice in the last 19 years.
