    Howdy,

I'm interested in copying old tapes and some minidics onto the puter. So i reckon that i just stick a lead from tape/disc/record player into the soundcard. Only problem is, obviously enough, tape quality is pants..

I have heard of several program for clearing the noise out of the input for soundcards. Anyone know of anything good that does the whole package ? Takes in sound, converts it to mp3 and cleans it.

Any thoughts would be great ! thanks
    Gav

    my google skillz found me:

    http://www.tracertek.com/noise.htm

30 days trial period, looks the daddy at gettin rid of noise/hiss.

    http://www.soundlabs.com/cgi/download.cgi?url=http://www.soundlabs.com/MusicMaster2Demo.exe

will need a crack (30 second limit).. takes input into wave, can do a few filters and will output to mp3 .. not the best though.

either way if you automate the whole procedure your gonna get some extremely dodgy tracks with either very low volume or half the frequencies removed.
best bet use the first one then give the wave a listen to see if its alright then convert.

Tell me if you can do this with any reasonable success, my own attempts with programs like soundforge a year or two back left me unimpressed.
