Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is he the greatest actor of all time, or just a New York street thug who can only play gangsters?p1_midnightrun1.html

Agreed. He's an amazing actor, has anyone seen the behind the scenes stuff of The Godfather, when De Niro screen tests for the part of Sonny?? Jesus, it's brilliant, even Coppola says he was amazing, but he was too brutal for the part, brutal as in evil! :)
Great stuff, but I prefer Al Pacino myself, or maybe they'd be on a par.

Al Pacino WAS great in the 70s and early 80s (Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, GF1&2, Scarface etc.), but in the last decade or so he's descened into this embarassing shouty hoo-haa over-acting which is really grating.

And giving him an Oscar for Scent of a Woman?????!!!!!

    Please!!!

It was just a token Oscar for all the times he was overlooked for far superior performances.

As for Bobby D - Genius, although he has made some APPALING decisions, but that was because he needed the money to fund his Tribeca Film center thingy...

    Descended not descened.

He was brilliant in scent of a woman! Just cos he's not playing a gangster or something doesn't mean his acting isn't good.
What about Carlito's Way - excellent, Devil's Advocate - Excellent proof that he can play a part other than a gangster, same as De Niro

Yeah, Carlito's Way was good, but Sean Penn acted him off the screen.

Devil's Advocate? - Shouty overacting again.

I agree with doubledown, Al Pacino seems to do nothing but shout and roar through films in recent years.
I still think he's a great actor though.

frankly passed comment on DeNiro in Heat.
I disagree, in fact compared to Pacino who did the "shouty, overacting" bit, I think DeNiro came across as the consumate professional.

    Thank You Samson!

De Niro OWNED Heat. A beautiful, underplayed performance of a man so dedicated to his profession that he is willing to have no life outside of his work so he can run at the drop of a hat.

De Niro made Casino in the same year, and it's some achievement to be able to dominate two 3 hour movies in such a fine manner.

    Bobby D, I salute you.

DeNiro & Pacino are the most over-rated actors ever.

If DeNiro says "go to lunch" one more time, I'm going to remove his testicles with a vice - I f*cking swear it.

Quote from Cop Land, for the uninitiated among you ;)

Serpico + Scarface were good, that's about it.

Kevin Spacey says "Go to lunch" about 70 times in the space of 2 minutes in Glengarry Glen Ross, so it must be the hallmark of a good actor!

frankly i dont think you have
a ****ing clue. Heat was fantastic
that was one ****ing sweet film
one of the best films de niro did in
the nineties. If not the best

I got tired of de niro in all those utterly crappy comedy roles he did; he just played it straight and overdid his ganster stuff and everybody was saying he's a comedic genius - oh please.

Pachino is quite good in some parts but i wouldn't get worked up about him being a genius either. He was good in Gen garry Ross ( I love that film so much.)

    A!
    B!
    C!!

    Always be CLOSING!

DENIRO AND PACINO ARE THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST OF OUR GENERATION.
    NO ARGUMENT ABOUT IT
    ;)

watched King of Comedy last week with DeNiro and Jerry Lewis. not a ganster movie, but absolutely brilliant like most of his work. the man is the most gifted actor i've seen in a while.

So chucky do you agree with me regarding Taxi Driver?

If I express my opinion that DiNero was a Goat in Heat, that he way over acted (just because Paccino was worse) and has done better, it's IMO.

I think it is you who has'nt a fcuking clue.

Genius. And not just in gangster roles. Just watch Awakenings for the proof.
