    I've been thinking about the 56k flat rate call charges and how much Eircom would make from them.

    Lets just say Eircom charge €30 a month for net access.

    Now, if it's €30 a month, that makes it around €360 a year...
    Now if 1,000,000 people subscribe, that's €360,000,000 a year and if 2,000,000 people subscribe, thats about €720,000,000... Eircom are still going to be making a lot of money from an unmetered internet product, so why don't they release one?

    (If my figures are wrong, i'd appreciate someone correcting my math)

    Any comments on this?

    your never gonna get 1million customers in ireland. Ireland has a population of just under 4million - right? and in every household there is probably an average of 4 people living there, so 1 million is probably the maximum amount of customers there will be and theres no way every household is going to sign up for eircoms flat rate.

    (btw, if i'm not making any sense, its because its 2:48 in the morning!)

    SNL got 20,000 customers correct?

    so 20,000 x €35 = €255500000 a year...wheras eircom make €1000000 every 48hours... so Eircom lose out on 255days profit.. forgive me if im wrong.. (its 3:20am in the mornin :P)

    hmm... what i got for those was:

    //say $calc(20000*35)
    [03:22:00] <Kenny> 700000

    //say $calc(20000*35*12)
    [03:22:08] <Kenny> 8400000 (8,400,000)
    [03:22:14] <Kenny> hmm... odd...

    Where did your

    20,000 x €35 = €255500000 come from? It has me stumped... :confused:

    I wonder if I've gone and proved that I'm an IRC addict now? :p

    I dont know how many people actualy have a phone in ireland nor do i know the figures for PC population but neither really effect the flatrate situation if you think about it.Say there are 1 million people who have phones and also a PC with which to access the net out of that million x percent would find it pointless paying €30 for a service that they use to collect their E-mails and the odd hour or two a month surfing .So at the end of the day they will contiue to line Eircoms pockets at existing rates while those of us who exceed 30 hours a month would reap the real benefits and when i say we im not talking about just web surfing but busines and education which in the long run will benefit the whole of ireland.

    i added up all the off-peak hours (not including weekends or bank holds as a full day) and for one year (365 days), your bill would come up to €6843.75... adding weekends and bank hols, it would be around nearly €8000 a year, i bet. €8000/year is about €615 a month €154 a week, or 22€ a day...

    sheesh... we would pay as almost as much in one day, as the uk would pay in a month... now that is certainly wrong...
