THINK THIS SHOULD BE IN THE HUMOUR THREAD!!!!!
Just got a quote for myself and my brother from Quinn Direct. The car is a Daihatsu Domino 600 cc 1987.I am 27 1 years NCB and full license. My brother is 17 provisional licence.
The quote was €5499.Is the a joke or what.I dont even need my own insurance as I have a company car and am just trying to sort my brother out on the ladder.

I rang Quinn direct back to get the quote in writing and was told that they dont send them in the Post.So I dont even hjave proof to report them to someone.Any ideas how I take this further.
    Thanks.

Accept the quote, and set up your DD to a dead bank account(ie empty). You will receive everything in the post, and then the insurance will be cancelled when they don't receive payment. Now you have ammo to report them :) (Just don't try scam your way by using the insurance disc, or I'll have to kill you)

    :)

I CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU MAY BE WASTING YOUR TIME. IF THAT RATE WAS FOR THE YEAR THERE MUST BE A REASON. YOUR BROTHRES AGE BEING FORMOST. THE AGE AND MODEL OF THE CAR BEING SECOND. INSURANCE RATES CAN VARY, I AGREE THAT THE RATE YOU WERE QUOTED DOES SOUND OUTRAGEOUS BUT THEY WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE INFO TO BACK UP THE QUOTE IF AN INQUIRY IS MADE AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE WASTED YOUR TIME AND EVERGY...BY ALL MEANS GO AHEAD THOUGH, PERSONALLY I'D LIKE TO HEAR WHAT HAPPENS....BUT WHEN YOU TRY TO MAKE THE INQUIRY I FEAR THEY MAY SAY YOU DONT HAVE A CASE BECAUSE IT WAS ONLY A QUOTE AND YOU DIDNT ACTUALLY MAKE A CONTRACT YET, YOU UNDERSTAND. WELL, I AM JUST OFFERING A LITTLE ADVICE IS ALL, I HAVE BEEN IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS AND HAVE LEARNED A LOT :)

Insurance is crazy. It costs €1500 euro extra to insurance a 306 car than a 306 van same, year, value, driver. This is from quotes from quinn direct. The last time I called them it was a bloke, pretty sound. today it was a woman, got she annoyed me.

Yeah well they wanted €1700.00 for me alone. When I had my own car 10 months ago I only paid £1100.00 for the first year with no NCB and a full licence and that was on a 1.6 escort.I think that most companies make a figure up out of their head depending on how gullible you are.
The sooner the better the this MIAB report comes out and someone gets this mess sorted out once and for all. An 18 year old driver in the uk can get insured on an XR3I for less than a £1000.Over here if you mention XR3I forget about it.Another thing I would like to know is why I cant ring a company in say Germany or France or even the UK and get a quote there. Its supposed to be a free market economy.ITS A F**KING JOKE.
    Anyone?????

FOR THE SAME REASON THAT YOU CANT CALL AMERICA AND GET A QUOTE ON INSURANCE. Why would you think you can get a quote for insurance in a country you do not live? I will explain a couple things to you, I may not get across to you since it seems you just dont understand insurance at all but let me try. A quote involves many factors. I will try to make this as brief as possible. There are so many safety factors involved here that its not funny. Your rate is determined by how much damage your vehicle could potentially do and by how safe it is for YOU to drive it in the area that you live. If you live in an area that has a higher rate of accidents than another, because of natural disasters (sheep, cattle floods, etc..)or because of the rate of vandalism, crime then your rate will be higher than the person in the next postal code. Its all done by claim research, if your neighbor has an accident then he just added to the # of claims in your postal code so your rates may increase according to how the #'s compare at the time the report is generated, I think there is a report generated every month then rates change every about 6 months according to the tally's.
Your age matters because if you are young you are considered a risk because of inexperience. Your driving history and sometimes credit history also plays a role, these things show how much of a risk you are as a safe driver and sometimes company use credit history to see if you are resposible in paying bills on time, if not then you'll get a surcharge. Every company is different in that area, but rating is the same every where on the things like model and make of vehicle, for safty features or danger possibility, areas that are more prone to accidents get charged higher, you see? so your agent doesnt just pick a $$ off the top of their head, its all a very calculated procedure. If you have any questions please feel free to ask I dont want to keep going on if you got it or didnt, just let me know. I hope I could help. :)

When I was buying my Civic VTi, I was shopping around for insurance....
I spoke to one middle-aged (sounded like it) woman who asked what type of car it was....VTi I said...she checked...nothing on the system so she had to go to the one-armed-bandit random-insurance-premium enumerator and check...

She came and said in the line of 'Darling, why do you need a such a car...to impress ladies? Why dont you buy a fiesta? AND SHE THEN HUNG UP..

    HELLO? WAKE UP IRELAND .

Lily thx for the info. And as far as credit history etc goes I was going to pay the lot upfront.Im also married have a mortgage no personal loans etc and my credit history is excellent(i get it checked every 6 months).I do understand where you are coming from but surely how can the Uk be so different.I can go to the UK, buy a car, get it insured over there, tell the company that I drive in Ireland quite a bit and still save thousands..I just cant figure it out what the difference between here and the UK/rest of europe is.Is there a CARTEL going on here or is it just the Irish way of never questioning anything ie if people were to refuse to pay these exorbitant premiums would they go down???????

Combination of a cartel and bastard legal people making millions from us. That and decades of governments not bothering to build proper roads combined with misinformed media reporting.
