    awh how cute,

this actually is a decent post, ive tired it out and it works fine, the only slightly dangerious bite is the editing of the boot.ini. IF you mess up its format time. But the guide they provide is good

Or you could backup your boot.ini file and make a boot disk before you attempt the bewildering edit

tried that, for some reason if never worked out the way its meant to

Nice one syx, I'm choosing my new bootlogo right now :p
BTW, does anyone know how to mod the image on the Win2k user login box? and set the default desktop colour while the logon screen is active wah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,815 ✭✭✭✭po0k

    Jees thanks lads :)
Thought ye'd like it, didn't expect much of a response, waiting till I get into college tomorrow to do some serious downloading and burning :)

There's a way to have a random pic loaded each time you boot up too, but I think i'll leave that for now :)

The rest of this thread is in the Recycle Bin. I'm splitting off the other posts now.

Do it somewhere else boys, I have better things to do with my time.

    What happened?

Anyways....got it working this morning, no bother, just going to try and setup the random logo booting later.
That Reshack proggie is class. Really handy :)

Reshack is teh win. Hacking without the hassle. Helped a lot with the GLminesweeper release.

GLminesweeper eh - keep seeing that in your sig and ignoring.

    /me downloads.

AHAHAHA.... I was expecting an OpenGL Minesweeper clone. Hehe, played amp, that is definately the win. :)

Em, just to keep this post on topic, I'd like to say that this boot logo is absolutely the win.

Anyone else hating how crappy most of the bootup logos look when conveted to 4-bit colour?
I've tried all sorts of different colour reduction methods, all that octree, median cut, blah bla... and every time it turns out dodgy... either the fancy full-colour graphics flatten into a mush of mono-tone garbage, or the smooth bar at the bottom turns into moiré-city.
They look great on the site, then once you convert it, it looks pants... it's best to take your time and make your own IMO.
Has anyone had any luck using 8-bit colour?

On 98 and 95, the bitmap images were stored in a separate file (can't remember what it was called). I reckon that if you do a search on Google for "boot screens", most of the results you get back will for 95/98.

EDIT: It was logo.sys. There's a couple others too. Loadsa stuff on Google.

    ^bump

Was looking for this thread again... might be worth adding the url to the sticky thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,815 ✭✭✭✭po0k

    Yeah :)

I'm rather proud of it, even if it wasn't exactly news to everyone
Anybody get the random boot logo running yet?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,488 ✭✭✭SantaHoe

Nope, it sounds like more trouble than it's worth really :)
I just wanted to replace that horrible bright default bootlogo... it really flickers on a 19" monitor.

I replaced it with some of my TFC art instead :)
