Customising my Les Paul

I want to do a series of things to my Les Paul to make it look better mainly because it currently looks a bit cheap.

All the hardware on it is completely black and makes it look a bit plasticy. I will change the Hadware to Silver which is no Bother, but another thing I want to do is change the colour of the pickup frames using enamel paint. Look at the image to see what I mean

I want to know what will happen if I unscrew these frame bits out? Is it safe? Will the pickups fall out and be impossible to put back in etc?

I don't think you would necessarily need a pro to do it. I just need to be told how. It's nothing big.

I think it looks fine as it is

The pick ups are held in with screws with springs around them. DON'T lose the springs if you go ahead with the design. Its a nightmare putting those back on too!

Why not trying to get replacement Frames for the pickup, they wouldn't be too hard to find. Thomas was dead right about the springs but thats all you have to worry about.
because it's an Epiphone you might want to consider changing the pick-up selector switch because they do tend to mess up alot on some of the Epiphones I have played. And you should consider changing the tuning heads to Gibson ones. You should also consider golden Tone and volume knobs. Though I don't know how this could affect the value of the guitar because even though you have superior hardware in the guitar, purists would rather an unmodified guitar. Of course it's your choice.

Save up,buy a real Les Paul..not that the Epiphones aint ok but they aint nothing like the real thing or some form of PRS they seem to be kicking the ass of Gibson atm as regards the standard of the build work...

Eh changing or taking out the pickups aint a big deal watch out for the springs dont bang the pickups be v v careful or you will end up not with a guitar but with a feedback machine
