a pure marketing mail to keep up interest for the potential consumer and investors.
bet you that "monthly update" will be every two months or more, i mean how many times can they rephrase the exact same (lackof) information?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 394 ✭✭Joe22

im sure they will try, ive made my mind up, if i dont have adsl by october im going sat, simple as that, probably keep sat and adsl when adsl finaly come in, 20 a month for 500k isnt bad

They changed it again. Or they're using rand()...

Many thanks for contacting us regarding the forthcoming introduction of our ADSL service.

Like you we are really excited about the implications for Internet users - particularly in terms of increased speed and cost benefits.

At the moment we are putting the finishing touches to our roll-out plan and a comprehensive ADSL brochure will be available in the near future which will spell out all the details you are likely to need. We will forward a copy as soon as it becomes available.

Once again, thanks for your interest and if you will just bear with us for a short time longer, you can soon avail of the time-saving and money-saving benefits which ADSL will bring.

seriously how long till some sort of cable modem apart from isdn is out for every place in dublin? is it all in eircoms hands or what ?

[Eircom have nothing to do with cable (neither does ISDN for that matter). Well, not directly anyway{1}.)

Aside from my being anal, yes, it's all down to Eircom. Actually, it's all down to Local Loop Unbundling, because the other operators don't want to go down the bitstream road (and rightly so). That's why they all "pulled out of DSL trials", as Irish "technology journalists" -inaccurately - put it. The ODTR gave Eircom another month to revise their reference offer, so that's four months we're behind in complying with the European directive now. But of course, neither the ODTR or Eircom are /really/ breaking any rules, because they've (arguably, and I would argue against) done what they were told.

At this stage though, I think we really have to lay the blame squarely at the feet of Etain Doyle for not getting tough with Eircom. Eircom are only doing what any large business in the same position would do these days - protecting their assets. When LLU comes about, it'll kill a good portion of their current and future business, including - but by no means limited to - leased lines, which is a huge part of Eircom's core business now that Eircell is going, going, gone. Eircom are just trying to postpone the inevitable. Again, they're doing what business do. I don't agree with it, and /I/ wouldn't do it, but that's what we have to content with these days.

    /just another of dahamsta's periodic rants/

{1} Actually, they /are/ affecting the cable Internet business in a roundabout manner, in that there isn't anything NTL and Chorus really have to compete against. They could get the jump on Esat, Genesis and Eircom if they really wanted to, but it would be quite expensive to set up, and with exclusive cable licences a bit hairy at the moment, they might be right. (The ODTR should never have issued exclusive cable licences. Anyone with De Multi could tell you that.) That said, you can bet that as soon as DSL gets out there, they'll change their mind pretty rapid.

Oops, didn't answer the first question. The best anyone can give you is "soon". In all honestly, I thought we'd have it by now, but obviously that's not the case. I'd say about a month or two, but I've been wrong before. If you really were talking about cable though, it'll be a bit longer.

speaking to people in eircom, its going to split in to, one will be the line bussiness
that will be sold off and renameds(so someone else will own what is eircoms lines today)and another company like esat that simple rents the lines like esat or ntl does,
this means eircom doesnt have to invest money in llu or adsl the people who by the lines company will, so dont expect adsl anytime soon, it could take a year just to sort out this crap

Jo22, could you please take a little longer in putting together your posts. As mentioned before, just because this is the net, it dosent mean that people are less annoyed about bad spelling, grammar and syntax. Cheers.
