Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BBC/FTV card issues

I have 2 queries (plus some additional info which might be
a red herring so don't shoot the messenger :) !)

First off my FTA card arrived at my relatives house in the UK.
My relative is a bit concerned as to whether the fact that the
card was ordered to their address whether this will have an
adverse effect on them being able to get an FTV card at some
point in the future. They don't have satellite at the moment -
just analogue cable and they are considering getting a decoder
+ FTA card in the future. The originally agreed that I could
get the card via their address but are having second thoughts.
I definitely don't want to risk disenfranchising them of their
right to obtain a card in the future. Can anyone categorically
confirm whether there is or isn't any consequence for them
in terms of them getting a card for themselves at some point
in the near future? I'd imagine this is all down to how the
FTV/FTA administration system works and how the allocation
of cards is tracked. Perhaps they are just tracked at the
time of allocation but not thereafter (apart from the fact
that the card will be activated....)

Furthermore, my relative got the card just the other day
and told me that the accompanying letter/documentation
indicates that the FTV card can only be used in UK/NI and
(wait for it...) ROI. Have the FTA folks relaxed something here
or is this perhaps a red herring? My relative's point (having
seen the accompanying documentation) is that I could
probably just order one to my address in Dublin. I doubt
if this is the case given that FTA cards are in principle
doled out on the basis that the holder is a UK television
license subscriber. Unless, for some reason they are adopting
the hear-no-evil/see-no-evil approach whereby they will
ship to ROI. Any ideas, fellow forum dwellers?

finally - given my relative's reservations my best guess now
is that I will probably seek an alternative way of getting
the card as I don't want to rain on their party, etc.

No need to worry about that. My mate in London has got 2 FTV cards in his house and he ordered one for me, so thats 3 down to his address. I dont see the problem.

The card is sent out from sky in standard sky packaging which is common to the UK and Ireland. There is no way they will send you a FTV card to Dublin or any other address in the republic.

Relax and enjoy the world of FTV viewing.

    Hi Bond-James-Bond:

That's reassuring about the multiple cards per UK household
issue. Although frankly the relative got a bit on the high moral
ground so I am thinking it is probably best I organize this
again with someone with less reservations.

I guessed also that the ROI reference in the packaging was
exactly that 'standard issue packaging' and that it had no
relevance to where the card could/should be used from the
    FTA folks perspective.

Thanks for such a prompt and informative reply!
