Well Sierra have done it again. After people paying 50 quid to do the biggest beta test ever seen, they are now releasing Tribes:Fast Attack.

Remember when people started voicing thier concerns about Tribes 2 as compared to tribes 1? Performance issues aside, the main gripes were:
    • Too Slow/Skiiing not good enough etc
    • Maps too big
    • Vehicles are needed too much/too messy
    • Too many per team

Lots of people said No, its just a new game, its not Tribes 1, get used to it. Even after HUGE teams started dropping off the US ladder out of frustration(including 5150, not only unbeaten in the ladder but they didnt even concede a SINGLE cap in thier time on it) the believers said no no no, its good honest.

Well well, the new Tribes game, Fast Attack has been announced and surprise surprise, what are its 'features'?

IGNPC: How do you balance the game for smaller groups? Any big conceptual changes to the way the game functions?
Alex Rodberg: Absolutely. Chris could probably speak to it in more detail and depth but the idea is having faster movement (actually an increase in gravity and a decrease in resistance and not having a speed cap on movement and smaller maps) and having the action placed more centrally and more tightly between the bases so that you're not spending a lot of time traveling. You 're actually spending more time actually in combat or grabbing the flag and running with it. The idea of reorganizing all these things to have a coherent game is what Fast Attack is.
The new multiplayer maps in Tribes: Fast Attack will emphasize smaller team gameplay, according to Rodberg
The vehicles for Tribes: Fast Attack have been modified from Tribes 2. Rodberg said that in their opinion there was "an over reliance of vehicles in Tribes 2" and that there will be some one man vehicles like the single player bomber and the armed ground transport to help alleviate that.

So lets get that straight -
    • Faster/better skiiing
    • smaller maps
    • less vehicles
    • Smaller teams

    Sound familiar?

What galls is that all these issues have come up again and again, from the first private beta test, to the meta test then on to release and thru EVERY subsequent patch. It was only when sierra saw how popular Base++ was becoming that they realised they may be able to bleed more money from the people that spent 50 quid on an unstable piece of crap by giving them what they wanted originally....and charging them for it.

    Cheers sierra.

40 us $ (with a $20 rebate for Tribes 2 customers - god knows how you apply for this)

They are aiming to have it on shelves for Xmas. Judging by the debacle that surrounded the release of Tribes2, dont hold your breath.

Dear god! Can't they just let it die a Noble death?

    It's so sad...
