    hi, i need to get a new modem to work with xp (seeing as i can't get my motorola one too, grrr)

    anyone know where in town is doing good cheap internal modems at the moment?

    no such thing as a good cheap internal modem.
    get an external serial port modem.
    i recommend a diamond supra express.
    i saw one for around 50 euro in dixons in liffey valley, but it may be gone now, as i haven't been in a while.

    iirc they do 'Mr Modem' ISA hardware modems in peats, probably about €50. The tacky packaging makes them look like dodgy cheapo piles of crap, but they're actually very good modems.

    your motolora modem should have driver updates, check for computer company drivers..ie dell, compaq...etc

    you should find it and get it working properly....

    the_corpo: have you tried a hypertrm test to a basic Eircon number

    update

    bought a new genius modem for €40 from peats, and it's fine.

    i'd already tried the dell drivers for the motorola but no go. they installed the modem alright, but it just stayed dead.
