Cheers for the "Sundogs" Vote! We've been away for a while so I wasn't expecting one. Our site is www.sundogsband.com if anyone else wants a look there's some Mp3 clips and a Mpeg Video clip. If ya wanna see and hear the new band check the gig page.
    Cheers to Jim Beam.
My bands are: (Not in order of preference!)

    Brando,
    blotooth,
    turn,
    The frames,
    the walls,
    melaton,
    Blink,
    Dara.

That's all I can think of right now and let's face its extremely sad to vote for yourself.

If this turned into a series of CD's how about a classic Irish track on each one. The Idiots anyone?

On the whole 'should broken-up bands be allowed' topic...how about Watercress...surely one of the many gems that have escaped un-noticed.

it'd be great to have a compilation cd - brought out by phantom - that had all unsigned bands on it.like the gigsmart cd,i suppose, but unsigned units of the dj's tastes.

i mean we can always hear
*the frames bellx 1turn wilt *and all the usual other suspects

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 74 ✭✭manofspeed

    True enough Gar.
There's no point putting Ireland's great and best on the cd - i mean the Frames, Turn, Bell X1, etc hardly need the exposure, and I'd be very unlikely to buy it if it consisted of such acts because I have all their stuff already, as does frankly everyone else and we hear it non-stop all day on Phantom anyway!!!
It makes more sense to keep it Phantom's Unsigned:

    Speedman
    The Crayonz
    Blotooth
    Skyjack
    Berkeley
    Large Mound
    Woodstar

    etc

i think there would have to be a mix (the double cd suggestion is perhaps the best). all unsigned bands would hardly get the masses out buying the cd, and the whole point is to get money for phantom so they can do ... i don't know, stuff. the bigger the names, the more amount of people will buy it, so ...

also, maybe pete reed could help me with one little thing i noticed above. someone wrote how the irish times said that phantom had something like seven percent of dublin's listening figures. is this true? and if so, what exactly were the IRTC's reasoning when such facts were presented to them?

Curiously enough, Louis Walsh is unrepresented in the voting so far; perhaps his audience are blocked from accessing 'adult' websites like this.

Good to see so many people enthusiastic about releasing independent Irish Music. (You know if you're nice to your credit union manager, you could start your own label.)

If broken-up bands are allowed I would like an honourable mention for the Sewing Room and Rollerskate Skinny.

If it's only acts playing these days (which I suppose would be fair enough - they'd benefit most from the exposure) then I vote for 8 ball and clivestar.

I would also like to vote for those three eastern european guys playing guitar/trumpet/accordian on Grafton St/Wicklow St. (I'm not taking the piss my the way). I wish more of that stuff was picked up on in the music scene - though I know it's probably not in keeping with the regular phantom playlist.

Anyway, it's a really good idea and I hope it goes ahead.

    Cordially yours

I think as soon as this thread fades into the secondary Phantom pages, there will have to be a final count and a definite line-up for the CD. Any more votes before I take up this mountainous task??
