    LOL

    no, windows

the codecs you deleted are an inherent part of windows - only an install in repair mode will fix is AFAIK

inherent part my ass.. a directx reinstall or uninstalling and letting xp pick back up your soundcard surely will do the trick... theres absolutely no way a complete system reinstall is necessary for something like that. otherwise you wouldn't be able to uninstall them in the first place :)

Something similar happened on one of my Windows PCs, I fixed it by reinstalling the sound card and the multimedia bit in windows setup, in add/remove programs. Not sure which did it, probably the multimedia bit (it's Windows 98). Might be worth looking at that before reinstalling/reparing, that's kinda overkill imo.

No, in fairness, just reinstall, but use Win2K.
WinXp is to 2k what ME was to 98SE.
It was thrown in with your PC was it?

Yeh...XP was pre-installed on the PC when purchased.

I have the recovery disk and I'll see what I can do with that this weekend.
I'll let you know how things pan out...

    thanks
