    howdy,

    just a question/thought.

i do enjoy boards.ie but one thing that *I* think is lacking is boards dedicated to other things in technology, other than programming/webmaster/security stuff.

don't get me wrong i do read these boards, but well i am not really interested in them. i read them to keep up on things.

i would be interested in other technology topics such as: electronics, hardware (computers, electronic gadgets), other communications forms, science(applied).

maybe there isn't enough demand for these topics, if not then point taken.

    just a thought.

Technology boards as they are now originally used to be just one Unix board.
Obviously a lot of posts that werent relative were thrown in there.. hence the renaming to Technology.

Webmaster/Security and Programming were all brought in due to the vast amounts of posts on this board about those subjects.

As it stands now I don't think theres too much demand for more specialist boards in anyone category.. especially since boards.ie themselves have such a wide range of readers.

Sure somewhere like Anand/Aces or Ars would have dozens of specialist tech boards for each subject but thats just catering to their users.

Sorta chicken/egg situation.. you can put another board there without too much demand and wait till it gets popular (if at all) or else when demand exists, create a new board.
That said Security and Programming both had a very slow startoff in terms of posts and now have a fair number of regulars to those boards.

Wah I'm ranting... if you have any particular board in mind sure just throw your idea up here or on the Admins board.

    hmm,

well i have to admit the likness.
But I chose Powered Toastman from Ren & Stimpy, because Frank Zappa was the voice of PTM. And Frank is a sorta idol of mine :0)

An Irish equivalent of Anand/Aces/Tomshardware/Ars would be excellent though. I intend to setup a computer hardware/operating systems site this summer, hopefully. I reckon there is an interest in this in Ireland, and people would like going to an Irish site. Boards for hardware, electronics and science are a great idea, hopefully more people think so as well. If you are reading this, and would like to see these boards, please post here, or start a topic on admin.

hehe, I should probably edit my profile. That webpage is on my college netsoc server, which is currently prohibited by computer services in the college from having outside access to its webpages. Its only a mess page anyway, no technology page up there yet. Sorry bout that

Powdered Toast Man has been played by a few people, but in the episode you are thinking of (called "Powdered Toast Man") the eponymous PTM is played by Gary Owens. Frank Zappa played the Pope in that episode (although there are censored versions were the credit is changed to "as the funny little guy in the pointy hat", presumably refering to the Pope as "the funny little guy in the pointy hat" and not stating that he is the Pope is less offensive to Roman Catholics, though I can't see how.)
