    Hi guys,
I am just wondering about DVD regions.

From what I've heard its now not illegal to change the region on your PC (correct me if I'm wrong- I heard something about it Norway). If so, is the switch a hardware or software related issue and how would I go about doing it.

And have any of you done it and is it safe for PC health :)
Any other info would be apprectiated.

    Thanks
    George

most apps come with the ability to change the region a number of times. usually about 5.
i dont know if there are any region free software players.
but you can get dvd genie to play any region dvds, its downloadable shareware i think.
theres no problem with pc health unless you put jam on your dvds before inserting them.
the switch is software by the way, just in case you didnt pick up on it.
    other info?
    use powerdvd, its the best.

AFAIK from Jan 2000 all drives had to be locked to a certain region (according to some law? someone correct me if i'm wrong?).

Get DVD Genie, or DVD Region Killer 2 (forgot the URL sorry, but a Deja search should find it for ye).

U might need a firmware update for your drive though, but try DVD genie first. PowerDVD is best, it's groovy.

    thanks Guys,

I've downloaded both of those programs. My brohter has a few DVD region 1's that he is bringing over today so I'll post back and let you know how it goes.

BTW, I have Power DVD. It is very good alright. I also thought that Win DVD (it came free with a Dell PC in work) was good also- very user friendly :)

    Hey chaps,

Sorry for my delay in responding to this thread but I've been out the country for a few mopnths on business.
Fortunaltey I was able to pick up a few Region 1 discs on my travels so I 've been able to test them out on my PC.

I installed DVD Genie and Region Killer and they seem to work fine. They have changed the DVD region info in the Drive Properties: My Computer(Right click) -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Toshiba DVD Drive -> Region -> 1/2/3 etc. and the number of changes left has remained at 4.

However when I use my PowerDVD program it prompts me to change regions and then states I have "x" amount of times left before it is permanent. However it doesn't affect the Drive Region Properties in the Device Manager. At the moment I have 2 changes left on the PowerDvD counter and its still 4 on the sytem properties.

So what happens if I use up all the PowerDVD changes?? Can I reset it ??
And can I still use my DVD drive even if the PowerDVD changes have expired and the counter is still 4 in the system properties?

Anyone else got any ideas/experience in the area?

    Cheers
    George
