Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

would you moderate this ever so popular forum?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭lordsippa

    If he won't I will...

Love metal... love all music really, but metal most so... Try and get a mod with the widest metal taste... that way if there's a Black vs. Death style argument, at least the mod will be fair (should he need to intervene).

The Music forum is almost a rock/metal forum as it is now. What's the point?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 248 ✭✭atonal

dont the Phantom and music/radio boards allready cover this?pretty much only rock and metal get discussed there anyway, adding another board I think may just end up causing too many boards on overlaping topics.

The point is if that is the case then the name could be changed to Rock/Metal. That is up to the admin(s) of course.

A Rock/Metal forum sounds like a great idea. I personally dont think the Phantom boards service Ireland's long haired leather clad peeps musical needs.

Good heavens! A fellow fan! I concur totally and without reservation in the endoral of the product and/or service. Also mayhaps as it happens I have recently become fond of the lute. Are there others who share this passion?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

You know, I'm actualy rather against this.
Simply because of the fact that there'll be a load of mad users saying "Well, if they can have that, we want... Blah!" and so forth and so forth. We definetly DON'T need a board for each and every music style.
I can understand why we should have a "Dance" board, as there's quite a few DJ's out there, and that it's a good place to talk about equipment, and all sorts of stuff.
Pretty much most of the Rock and Metal is already covered over the current music board and the instrument. And let's not forget the Phantom board.
I don't see any need for it.

I'm not saying I wouldn't take the job if I was offered it! It's up to the admins if they want me to be a mod and if they think I'm trustworthy enough. If they do make this forum that is.

The lute? Why I just adore the lute! I think a board for our fellow lutists is in order so we can discuss lute related issues, don't you?

Yeah I agree with this. I dont see the need for a dance/electronic board really either though. Why does it get it's own forum?

As for renaming the music/radio board rock/metal I cant see that happening because some none rock/metal topics are posted there.

I reckon leave things as they are, but I wont have a problem if a rock/metal board is made.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I can see the need for a dance board because, as I said, there are things that it can have talked about which aren't exactly for other boards. I mean, would you hardly talk about whatever DJ equipment on the instruments board? Or whatever Rave culture might be at. Where as there's nothing really about Rock/Metal that can't be talked about on the Music, Phantom, or instruments boards.

Plus anyone attempting to talk about Dance/Rave on the Music/Radio or Phantom boards would get an almighty flaming.

Now hold on there a moment, my good fellow! If you're to have a board for the discussion of the lute - and I do agree that it's a simply divine instrument, and certainly worthy of it's own forum, don't misunderstand my intent here! - I simply insist that we be granted a forum in which to discuss the pan pipes! I believe that your promotion of the lute over the pan pipes is unbecoming of one so versed in the wonders of the musical note; have you not heard the fabulous renditions of modern classics being performed by talented contemporary pan pipers in supermarkets and elevators up and down the country?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

Good Lord! What a misdirection of effort on behalf on my learned colleague Shinji! Surely one does not mean to suggest that the primitive pan pipes of which one suggest tribute to are in anyway the equal of the marvelous Lute? Nay nay and thrice again nay! I would rather a harpzicord forum than one based around a series of sharpened tubes! Withdraw forthwidth!

    Yours sincerely,
    amp (MCSE)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

    oohOOOH MCSE, my my.

I fully support this new board. I love metal. Yum. More of it!

I don't see the point of a dance forum either, how many times can you talk about a thumpy bassy line, and the same vocal (line) over and over again?? :P I mean, why a dance board, but no metal? For shame...

And AngelWhore (despite his reluctance) would make a good mod. Yay!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

I agree that it seems to be covered by the Music and Phantom boards, you know by the thread title what the subject is, if its "best decks" or something, metallers only need ignore. Not too hard, wanting a board for a genre is purely for prestige and I don't see the need either.

Theres so no need for a seperate board.

Yeah... I can actually see some (not all) dance/ravers at home saying to themselves, "Oh look, we have a board of our own. We are the superior genre and the future of sound." Now I'm not descriminating, in fact some metallers would be the same if they were in that position. But its time we all got equal shares in what goes on in this country.

Metallers have been deprived of alot in this country. Including
clubs, pubs andquite often concerts. Its about time we have something on our side.

See it as you may... But thats my opinion on this subject.
Simply because of the fact that there'll be a load of mad users saying "Well, if they can have that, we want... Blah!" and so forth and so forth.

I can see what you mean AngelWhore... but if there hadn't been a Dance board I probably would'nt have made this topic. So you could have said the same about their board being made. I personally was happy with the music/radio forum alone, but I think its only fair that we are all treated the same. I would support a Jazz forum being made if the topic arose.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

The reason a Dance board was made because not many people who listen to dance frequenky checked the music/radio board, I for one rearely did, I created 5 topics on the phantom board over a period of 2/3 days about dance music and gigs, they were all deleted without notice, so I was only limited to posting to the music/radio board, which little people intrested in the music checked..

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

Well thats their own problem in fairness (I'm not being smart). I still think that rockers/metallers should have an identified board on this board. They (in fairness to them) check all the music boards to see what topics are being made about metal. So I can't see why dance/ravers can capitalise on this and were being left out in the cold.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭lordsippa

The reason I would adore a rock and metal forum is so that people with less mainstream and modern tastes wouldn't have to put up with people saying "Limp Bi$kit rule" and then getting their asses flamed off, while holding a refined conversation about the irony of Beautiful Creatures losing their record deal while fred there is managing another successful band.

And as for the lute, well my dear man call me brash and senseless but I'm in! And although I can understand their inferiority, I can still find the panpipes a most amazing sounding instrument, as demonstrated that time by that street performer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

people with less mainstream and modern tastes wouldn't have to put up with people saying "Limp Bi$kit rule" and then getting their asses flamed off

I dont think I have ever seen somebody post Limp Bizkit rule on the music forum.
Metallers have been deprived of alot in this country. Including clubs, pubs andquite often concerts. Its about time we have something on our side.

I could say the same for hip-hop.

I'm not under the assumption that because dance music has it's own forum it's a superior genre.
how many times can you talk about a thumpy bassy line, and the same vocal (line) over and over again??

It appears as though you have never read any of the threads in the forum.

    One last point.
I still think that rockers/metallers should have an identified board on this board. They (in fairness to them) check all the music boards to see what topics are being made about metal.

If they always check to see, then why do they need a forum for it. They basically have 2 already.

LOL... I'm after saying that, that thought would be in some ravers minds that they'd be the "superior genre" even though I know alot of them would be mature enough not to. But it still is there.

And as for the hip-hop bit... I'd fully support a hip-hop/jazz/classical/etc... forum. At least it would stop people from flaming other genres of music.
If they always check to see, then why do they need a forum for it. They basically have 2 already
So did Dance/Ravers if they were bothered enough. But as OJ said... dance/ravers don't bother checking the Music/Radio forum and they have XFM (I dunno what that station plays) all to themselves.

I'm not under the assumption that because dance music has it's own forum it's a superior genre.

That was not typed in the right place.
I should have said it first. It wasnt in relation to any quotes. I was just voicing my opinion on that point. :)

    See?
Exactly as I said... "If they have blah, then we want blah!"

I'd wholeheatedly support a rock/metal board *IF* there was a need for it.
But as it's really only being suggested out of spite for the Dance board, I can't in all honestly say that it's a good idea what-so-ever. If you were happy with the music/radio board alone, why can't you be just as chuffed now? I mean, you also have a nice instruments board to talk about all your guitar related stuff.
Dance heads can't very well talk about their equipment/software and whatnot on the instruments board, can they?
So therefor, there is a need for the dance board.

Well then there's no need for a seperate Gigs or instruments board...
    Of course there's a need!
And we're hardly going to be taking a few staps BACKWARDS?
But at the same time, there's NO NEED to create a board for each and every style of music out there.

Just look at WWMan, amp and Shinji.
Their sarcastic parody is PERFECT example of what's happening with this rubbish.

And AngelWhore (despite his reluctance) would make a good mod. Yay!

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
    And I would gladly accept.
Only that it's merely a fact of "Hey! They have that, we want this!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Dustaz

sorry, i havent really read many of the replies since the first 2 or 3 , so apologies if this has been stated.
i dont agree with a seperate metal board. the music board is there for all forms. I dont see the dance board as being for dance music, more for Dance events/clubbing/DJing etc. thats what i think was set up for anyway.

Judging by some threads, if theres a metal board, next thing youll be needing a doom/black/death/speed/"dark blue norweigan virgin sacrifice" metal boards to sort out the categorising arguments:)

edit: lol, just read shinji, wwman and amps posts. much finer point made:)

Theres still no need for the dance forum as its all catered for in the Music/Radio forum. I mean its the only type of music thats played on the radio nowadays.

and yes "LOL"@amp, and Shinj ... strainge ain't it that theyre all anti metal. And yes I am very pissed off at this result.

thanks, but i got all the metalica albums, all the suicidal tendencies albums, several motorhed and blak sabath albums, all of iron maidens earlyier stuff, a couple of old anthrax and megadeth (in their hayday) some good old school obitury, carcass, lawnmower deth and paradise lost, and some good old fashioned kick ass rock in ac/cd albums knocking about.

and ive got god only knows howmany mp3s of other 'metal' bands. some of which i doubt you ever heard of them. and i still have a load ticket stubs from bands you wish were still gigging
but dont let it stop there. i like a whole host of other music types.

so i would really appreciate it if you dont tell people what i like and dont like. when you dont know any better.

    Ditto WWMan & Dustaz,

Still dont think there shoud be a separate forum
Its not like posting metal stuff on the Music forum is causing a problem or considered OT.

Why not ask for a Private Forum.

    Okokokok...

After all these valid points I think it should be stated that it's probably better to have a dance music forum just so they won't be in the normal forum...

So, whatever you wants... it's up to the people here!

And goddammit! There's no need to get so bitchy christsake! Ok, so some people are older than others - wow! And so some people may not like the idea of the metal forum - it happens! So shut up with this whole "i know more bands than you" cause lets face it, the more bands you name the more people are gonna say "man! they suck!"

... um... that had a point... but it's a metaphorical point, yes, so go figure it out...

Back to the issue of a Matal Forum:

maybe it's just me but it doesn't seem to matter how many people don't want a metal forum - If you don't want it then don't visit it.

LOL... are you mocking me or are you serious?!

If you're serious, I would support that... as long as you don't close any of my topics! :D Now that is saying alot (I think WWM will agree with me for once on this).

I just want a rock / metal forum. Don't matter who's moderating it. It would cover all of the rock/metal genres (which is alot... way more than Dance / Electronic).
