Creative Modem Blaster USB problems

I'm having problems getting a newly ordered Modem Blaster USB to work. I've connected it up, but whenever I try and connect, it starts dialing, then suddenly all the front LEDs go off and the modem stops responding. It doesn't start responding again until I restart the computer. Any ideas?
