Thought this may be of interest to the many people here to whom dsl is still a distant dream.

Europeonline will be unvailing their new "Skybooster" service at the end of the week.

This basicially is a unicast service, you have normal 56k upload speeds..however...download speeds will be up to 768k (rumour has it).

Sources say it will be possibly a three tiered service..with differing service levals depending on your spending ability :)

However, judging by the current Europeonline pricing, my own opinion is that its going to be a damn site more competitivly priced than eircoms dsl offerings.

Good thing is, this is something anyone in the country can use (with a big enough satellite dish).

I should point out though..it wont be any use for gaming.. as ping times over satellite are pretty slow..but for streaming, graphic intensive sites and downloading...768k should make thing a whole lot better than 56k :)
Also as the software appears to socksify your machine..kazza/morpheus and probably dcc on irc will work too (with a little tweaking)

Only available to ppl with 5.4 Mesh and above with "go fasta" stripes on the dish.

Unicast has never been a viable/sustainable offering, i am interested to see how EON make it work.

It has been...what..2 years since Unicast was offical on EON.

true chernobyl, except this time, its not them doing it by themselves, its utilising the plenexis service..time will tell..but even in its unofficial capacity, the current 200-300k over unicast is still better than 56k .
