    Hey guys,

I'm thinking about swapping my Radiation2000 (aka T28s) for a new model. I'll prolly use the Esat upgrade.

Trouble is, I can't spend much over €200, any recommendations for that price?

    Cheers,
    Al.

Ye... errr, yeah! Something like that.

Good things would be an SAR (or whatever the bleedin acronym is) of less than 1.

Required would be a half-decaent UI, not like those friggin old Motorolas have (like the timeports etc, I *hate* those with a vengence). Also infra-red is pretty much required.

As for the rest, well, GPRS: nice-to-have, Java support would be sweeet though unlikely in a 200 yoyo kit... Mail, also nice, I'd put that higher up da scale in terms of req's.

    Whaddya think?

    hi Al,

depending on which upgrade you fit into will decide how much you can offset against a new phone:
    http://www.digifone.ie/select_benefits_upgrade.jsp

sony ericsson handsets are no where to be seen from either operator at the moment - a 'how long is a piece of string' timescale for when they will be available but if you can hold off for a while the T68(i) (see links at end) could be worth waiting for if you had a good ericsson experience with the T28s (no idea of the operator price though)

if you can't hold out indefinitely and motorola is out for you, here are two of Digifone's (O2's) newest handsets to consider:

Nokia 6310: one with all the tech stuff
    - wap, gprs, bluetooth*, irda, (hscsd on vodafone only)
    - great Nokia UI
    - mid to high end price
    - more of a business/workhorse data enabled handset
    - same form factor as the 6210 (full size handset)
    - try and get the cream/sliver (mistral) coloured model (nicer than the black/gold and rust/silver models
    * found bluetooth is still not 100% stable on the latest phone software version (v 4.20) using a GPRS connection via Bluetooth (if that matters to you!), hopefully will be sorted with a future update

    Siemens S45: enabled sleek
    - wap, gprs, irda
    - get them to let you use the phone to see the UI first hand to check you are comfortable with it (or check out the siemens site below)
    - low to mid end price
    - more of a casual/trendy data enabled handset
    - form factor is closer to your T28s (mini handheld)

Thanks Brian, that was extremely helpful.

As I feared, there's really not that much out there unfortunately.

I'll think about the 2 you've mentioned, I'm not very impressed with either one to be honest, but might go for the Siemens to tide me over until some decent Sony/Ericsson ones are mainstream.

btw, who are you/who do you work for?

    Cheers,
    Al.

I got a Nokia 6310 for under EUR 150 in March 2002 and it was a nice refinement to the Nokia 6210 that I've used for 18 months.

I'm using a Motorola T720 for its (colour) tri-band features and plan to plug a Motorola MP3 unit into it before the end of the summer.
