It's basicly to modestly improve peoples language and / or get them to be a little more thoughful (or inventive) when posting. It also cuts down on abusive arguments and protects the kiddies.

Victor, my man, has it in a nutshell. It's to protect the severely non-profit making boards.ie from the possibility of shyster lawyers trying to sue for emotional damage.

And yes I may have had a few scoops but I would just like to say fúck the lawyers, and may shít fall on the motherfúckers from a great fúcking height. Lawyers are probably the main people in the world that do not think of the common good and think merely of the bottom line.

If you are a lawyer and are reading this. Fúck off and work for free for some worthwhile thing like Amenisia International or Gortá. Improve your life. Make a fúcking contribution to mankind instead of raping it of what is good.

A drawback with the filter (any filter) is where it filters out accidental obsenities. For example, I posted a link the other day to a site which was called something like "smash it up" dot com. Needless to say, as one cuncurrent word 'smash' and 'it' suddenly produce something that then gets filtered, leaving us with sma****up.com which is a dead link.

Not an important point, but I felt like sharing it...

I guess for me the issue is whether it is more annoying to see those ****ing ****er mother****ing stars come up every time you type something naughty, or see some posts dripping with obscenities. It's kindof a toss between the two, frankly I would rather see neither.

I'm not easily shocked or offended by any means, but I don't like to see a post where every second word is either derogatory, vulgar or obscene. I've seen it on other communities and it detracts from them.

You're not the first to comment on Devore's BOFH title (BTW, love the series ) but for the most part people take it in the funneh light in which it was intended. If you don't already know, a quick search on google will reveal most of the Bastard operator from hell series.
