    Dear Tim,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the Communications (Regulation) Bill,
2002. Your e-mail arrived the day on which the issue was to be discussed.
As you know, the opposition amendment was rejected and the Minister went for
a compromise, which talked about reasonable "cost to users". According to
the Department, they could not accept the opposition motion because it was
not "feasible on an operational level".

I have checked my files and the only communication I have on this from you,
as far as I know, is the e-mail. Could I suggest that, in future, you give
me more notice so that I could discuss the issues with you in more detail.
I am more than happy to meet with constituents and lobby groups. I have the
distinction, I believe, of being the first elected representative to have an
e-mail address in this country and I have always had an interest in the
development of communications. If the country does not get its act together
in relation to broadband, we could quickly become uncompetitive.

Please keep me posted on any further proposals that you have on this
    matters.

    Kind regards.

    John Gormley, TD

    Nice response,

I particularly liked the "keep me posted" part

    Tim
