Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Depends on the forum mod really. On some boards people are allowed go a bit overboard within reason.

On others any muppetry is stamped out but on all boards to get banned usually requires a fairly constant level of abusiveness and bad behaviour. It's really quite difficult to get banned and no one will be banned on one or two misunderstandings.

Asking why someone was banned is usually a bad idea as it's a private matter between the person and the mod. Not exactly public business.

I don't know of anyone who has ever been banned from boards, but like logic said, it takes a constant level of muppetry and just really proving over a serious of posts that you have nothing constructive to say... i for one have been contacted (in the early days, even though i am still a self-confessed muppet) by a mod over something silly or just plain rude that i have said, and they are always nice bout it, just letting you know it wont be accepted, and i think banning is a last resort for mods.

Peachy - pm DeV if you're curious, but be nice about it
    :)

Or you could search for all of your friend's posts, chances are, the few before his 'demise' will explain why quite clearly.

Either something totally out of hand, or a continuous display of incivility, abusiveness towards other people, ruining others experience of Boards.ie or generally being an ass.

What was your friends nickname and I'll explain in detail.

Having a sense of humour and taking the piss doesn't seem to go down too well here either IMHO. Sometimes I read a reply which is obviously urine-extracting and it gives me a laugh. Then I read replies from other users slating the funny-guy and I think... ****, someone needs a sense of humour transplant here!

EG: the masturbation thread in personal. KrustyPants posted a funny mail about the average message postings on boards.ie vs the average **** per day... thought it was great. But he was censored and says he couldn't log back in.

Moderators should encourage a good community feeling and allow people of other opinions to express themselves, and not take things too seriously here, and interfere too much with postings.

It's difficult to make a useful comment, considering that it seems the allegedly-offending remarks have been deleted, but I'm somewhat suspicious of someone with seven posts to their name (having registered three days ago, curiously, the same day as the post in question) making sweeping generalisations about how these boards are moderated...

...or am I just getting paranoid (again)?

Yes, I only registered last week, having spent a while reading the posts on Boards. I told KrustyPants about boards, and suggested that he sign up too. I only have one account here, Wolfie, and I dont use any fake names or anything to post 'mad-****' coz it wouldn't bother me posting anything from this account anyway.

So, yes, you are being paranoid. And KrustyPants and myself are new-users to this site... thanks for the great welcome! Censored posting, insinuations that I sent the post etc... nahh, doesn't bother me anyway, there are well established 'cliques' here. But read my original post again, and you should agree that moderators should keep a step back, and let adults post their own views (even if they are taking the piss) and let the thread flow whatever way the people posting want to. Or maybe you wont agree... after all I'm just a noob! heheh

I see... you seem to be rather argumentative about this, where I was only pointing out what seemed to be (at best) a startling coincidence - especially as you seem willing to fight your friend's corner for him; it would appear that he had no problem posting before this proverbial rap-on-the-knuckles, so why not now? - but if a coincidence is indeed what you say it is, then fair enough. Can you not see how it might seem worthy of mentioning - especially considering how many have gone down this route before - I'm sure you must have seen a few examples?

As regards the rest, well, as I said, I didn't see the original post, which makes reasonable comment on that impossible. However, I think that if you look around the boards a bit more, you'll find that there's quite a lot of what you're campaigning for - plenty of humour, some threads that go a bit mad, and so on.

...and this says what, exactly, about your character? Is it meant to paint you in a good light?

One last question though - why, tell me, if this perceived agression doesn't bother you, did you go to the trouble of replying with a thread where you insist on throwing mud around to see what'll stick? If you're looking for an argument, pick a fight with someone in a bar; if you're looking for a discussion, then, by all means, stay here. But please consider your potential audience (kids, etc.) before you post any 'mad-****'.

    Regards,

Boston, arse bandit, the 'issue' in the personal forum was about a guy who **** 4-5 times a day... now maybe you think that is a serious issue, but I (and anyone else with a sense of humour) would see that it was not. and should have the piss taken out of it immediately.

The second last post in this thread (from "KrustyPantS") was removed by a mod because (presumably) it was unsuitable.

Wolfie in this thread, who claims not to be the same person, is complaining about the post being deleted, and isn't being terribly civil about it...

Look lads, I'm not throwing mud, I am just fighting against attacks made by other people. And believe it or not, this is my only nick here.

Anyway, onto the issue. You guys are saying that this board 'After Hours' is for a kids audience? Get real FFS! And I cant call another adult (ehh.. I think Boston is over 18) an arse bandit? I'm sure he didn't get too offended by it, and you might notice that kids in playgrounds would use a lot worse language than arse bandit. Lighten up and grow a sense of humour. After hours is an adults section is it not? After hours for kids would be a bit boring, since they would all be asleep in bed after 8 o'clock (if you guys are so worried about their moral welfare).

And to the moderator for personal, azezial or whatever, you referred to my posting as

    [some crap]

Now thats great behaviour from a 'moderator' isn't it? You might not like what I have to say, but I am a new user to this site, and it doesn't reflect well on you, or your established clique, that you are so hostile.

    LIGHTEN UP DWEEBS!

jesus gadget you're almost as annoying as your namesake, that twat of an inspector who couldn't solve any cases without the help of his 9 year old niece Penny and her pet pooch brains.
if i were you i'd follow suit and ask one of your friends to help you solve the mysteries of the message board because it's blatantly obvious from your humourless replies that you are in urgent need of a sense of humour with regard to these message boards.wolfie as far as i can see is making fair points and not abusing anybody(apart from the idiot that goes by the name of boston who's looking for arguments)
to sum up,STOP BEING SO PRECIOUS ABOUT THE BOARD.

ye c'mon everybody, there's nothing like a good laugh and a bit of a piss take, fair enough if its in the personals and people are sincere about their problems, then leave it be but some of the stuff here in after hours is just calling out for a laugh to be had, whats wrong with that ?!

Truth be told, the moniker was chosen, for three reasons - the first being what you've written above, and the second is that it's relatively harmless as these things go, and the third, well, the third's an in-joke with my and my friends that I won't go into. On the other hand, what the hell is "The Pleasurer" about? I had a nice little paragraph worked out here with the intention of saying something about it, but I've decided it's not worth the aggravation.

Curiously, my last two posts on that subject were intended to be humourous, but it demonstrates an important point about how writing something down is so different to saying it to someone's face, or even speaking over the phone, to a lesser extent; that is, that it's much more difficult to assess a person's mood when they write something, especially if it's typed.

If you talk to someone face-to-face, you can read body language, gestures, and so on (studies have shown that the basic emotions manifest themselves the same way in all humans); if you talk to them without seeing them, you can sometimes sense stress or ill-placed delays in their speech patterns; hell, if they write it by hand, you can even determine a certain amount by how hard their handwriting, and the amount of pressure they used, but a typed message is very difficult in this respect, as the best jokes are often subtle, so sometimes people get it, sometimes they don't. It's just like that. Smilies/emoticons help, but they're far from foolproof. Evidently, you fell for the same trap you seem so convinced I fell for, but that's all well and good. These things happen.

I happen to agree with Wolfie's last post; I don't necessarily approve wholeheartedly with his approach up until now, but his intentions are honourable enough, and that's good enough for me. On the subject of Boston, well, from seeing him in action, I know for a fact that he's more than capable of fighting his corner; he's one of the characters that keeps this place interesting, if you ask me.

Can we agree to just drop this? I'm not in the mood for an argument right now...

P.S.> I should probably mention, in reference to this:

...that actually, the stars/title aren't part of a voting system - you'll clear the newbie tag after (I think) 10 posts. The stars grow in number with each title (each one granted at different post counts), and I believe the different colours are to say what the user is - user, moderator or admin, or something like that. It seems that for both of us, to varying extents, it's just as well no-one has to like us! :D

I wrote a good post on this (if I do say so myself :p) on another thread...coudln't be arsed looking for it. The whole point of having different forums is to separate content. If we wanted boards where we could just post anything, we'd just have one big After Hours board, and that'd be no fun would it?

Personal Issues was set up as a serious forum to help people with problems. The mods have decided that making fun of people's problems, or indeed of the people themselves is not on and is always removed.

After Hours deals with anything not already categorised and there is plenty of funny stuff posted up there, and people are pretty much free to post what they want, DonkeysLad, I don't see why you think they're not. The only things that will be removed from any board are :

    Porn, esp. animal/child/sadistic
    Personal Attacks (see 'flaming')
    Commercial Advertising (see 'spam')
Relentless, Pointless posting (also see 'spam')

    Exceptions to these rules are:
Borderline Porn (see 'Slydice Special' card)
Personal Attacks will more or less be allowed on the Admin board
Personal Advertising ('My band is playing a gig tomorrow, please come')
Spam is allowed in the Recycle bin and on private boards (see 'SMAK attack' and 'richindub2' cards).

Whether your post is removed or not depends on whether it contains any of the above, where it's posted, and who it's directed at (if anyone). Plenty of the Mods know eachother, and so personal jibes and minor spam is tolerated by their friends. Double Standards? Yes. Put up with it for a few months, and soon you'll be allowed bend the rules just like them. :D

There's no protective 'click' here. Boards.ie keeps on growing and the admins are happy to see it, but with larger popullations, comes more problems, which calls for more crackdowns on troublemakers. After all, if we didn't it'd just be like some of those crap American boards full of spam and posts fawnig over Tori Amos
We don't want that do we??

    :)
