Who's the best Classic Metal Band?

That was a hard one. Whilst I love Iron Maiden and GnR, I have to hand the accolade of "most classic metal band" to AC/DC.

They're just electric (no pun intended). Their music is just charged from start to finish, and they've come up with some of the most memorable riffs going, not to mention have an equally talented and eccentric lead guitarist. And they've been around since the early 70s - so they've put in a LOT of time and given a lot of good music.

I'd have to say that THE greatest classic metal band would/should go to either Led Zepplin or Black Sabbath.

But they're not on the list, so .....

Wouldnt class them as a classic metal band though.
Always considered classic metal as 60s and 70s metal.

As to your suggestions on Anthrax, Led Zep, Black Sabbath.

I was mainly aiming on bands from the Eighties which weren't kinda dark/underground bands ie. Anthrax, Sabbath, Metallica etc.

Is that understandable?

Unfortunately I thought Iron Maiden went weak after Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son tho Brave New World is a step back in the right direction.

If it's a Classic Metal poll, where did Guns n' Roses, Aerosmith and Van Halen come from. They're not Metal. AC/DC are Blues. And Led Zeppelin definitly weren't Metal. Why aren't Black Sabbath, Manowar, Judas Priest, Venom, Thunder, Witchfinder General and numberous other Classic Metal bands on the list?
