Following on from the thread on the radio ads for NTL.. i noticed this... They claim NTL is the ONLY digital service that allows you to watch regular TV in one room while watching Digital TV in another? is it just me or is that utter crap? I have NTL cable (in all rooms) and also have Sky Digital in my room... That cant be if NTL DIGITAL are the only service you can do this with!! Hell i could get some digisenders and have sky digital in all rooms if i wanted..

I agree. In fact anyone with digital TV can watch "regular" TV in another room, if the regular TV is analogue terrestrial that is...

Perhaps a complaint to the ASAI is in order?

In 2000, CMI Cable (a predecessor of Chorus) was given an ASAI warning after advertising BBC1/UTV/Channel 4, then giving an Arklow customer BBC Wales/HTV/S4C.

    Hi guys,

You know I have Sky and love it but I think you are being a little hard on NTL.

I understand the point you make but NTL are surely substantially correct? In fact for NTl/Chorus this really is a good selling point over Sky.

If you assume the customer has no other service, as in no terrestrial aerial, and no unencrypted cable from NTL/Chorus, then if they walk into a new house and want a digital TV service, only NTL will allow digital TV in one room and a different channel on analogue TV in another.

If Sky advertised "digital TV can be watched from every TV in the house", but actually meant that only the same channel could be watched would you consider that wrong? I would.

Ok, so NTL are perhaps literally incorrect, but only if you assume the presence of another service, either aerial or cable. A reasonable interpretation of the ad is that their one service will allow the viewing of 2 channels. Any other way will require 2 "services".

Actually I think Chorus offer this feature too, but since they are not competing directly with NTL I guess it doesn't matter.

    Ix.

Only problem with that is you CANT assume someone does not have a terrestrial aerial because once you have a TV you have the ability to pick up a signal with an aerial, in some cases you dont even need one if the signal is strong enough.. and since once you have a tV you need to pay the licence fee it is legally automatically assumed you have the ability to get terrestrial TV.

Its a weak argument at best
