Digital Soundcards with MD and CDs

Can anyone tell me about recording backwards and forwards with Minidiscs through a digital soundcard (SB Live Platinum?) and a CD-Burner.

Do all soundcards have the MD copyright protection built in?

Can MD songs be stored on your harddisc in a digital format - without any conversion to analog along the way resulting in a loss of quality?

Can the soundcard act as the go-between for playing a CD in the drive and recording it to a MD digitally, without saving files in between?

Any sites for this kind of stuff?

    Thanks.

    Bri.

The SBLIVE does observe the SCMS (Serial Copy Management System), as will your MD. What this means is you can make one digital copy of a master, after that it's analogue copying only.

So if you have an MD sourced digitally from a CD player you will not be able to use the Digital Input on the SBLIVE to read it into your PC. If it was recorded via Analog it'll be fine.
If you had MP3's on your PC you could feed them from the SBLIVE to the MD digitally, as none of the popular players use the protection built into the MP3 format.

I don't think WAV files store SCMS information so you should be able to rip on the PC's CD and transfer digitally to the MD. One nice feature of NERO burning Rom software is that it allows you to remove the SMCS bit when burning an audio CD, so if all else fails this may do the trick.
