Just wondering what people think is the best place for lunch in Dublin city center. Take into account price, quality etc.
One of the places i really like is Zinc bar in georges arcade. Decent enough prices, lovely sambos and nice soup. What about you?

Despite the price Bella Cuba in Ballsbridge is beyond exceptional. Try the chicken stuffed with suasage meat. I must point out that for this restaraunt you do require large amounts of money, but it's very good for a once off.

n.b. The only problem I had with it was they kept on swiping my ashtray to swop it for a new one. I'm a chain smoker and the poor dishwasher must have been sick of the sight of ashtrays at the end of the night :)

The places I frequent most often for lunch are:

Central Percs (Essex Street, Temple Bar): Really tasty soups, salads and sandwiches, all day breakfasts and yummy coffee. Pretty reasonable prices.

Da Pino (Parliament St.): Great lunch deal. It's around €6 for lasagne, pizza or steak & baked potato plus a drink. Food's great but it's usually packed if you go after 1pm.

Gruel (Dame Street): Delicious soups and homemade bread. They also do a 'roast in a roll' (a different one for every day of the week - stuff like pork with apple sauce, beef with horseradish etc.) for about €5.

Soup Dragon (Capel Street): Homemade soups (very unusual types as well) and bread and cakes. Tiny place so difficult to get a seat but you can take away too.

Tango (Westbury Mall): Best paninis ever! Really nice set and made to order sandwiches, cakes and smoothies and other nice things. Slightly pricier than the aforementioned places but well worth it if you feel like treating yourself.

I'm going to stop now before I realise I'm not writing the Good Food Guide 2002.

    :)

I am in munchies most mornings for coffee break but for lunch its gotta be the epecurian (I'm sure I have spelt that wrong) food hall on abbey st.

They have a wide selection of lunchtime foods. My favs would be itsabagel and taco taco.

You just cant go wrong in that place :)

Epicurian is nice on the north side, but I wouldn't touch that O'Briens manky stuff, Bendini and Shaw (beside central bank and on st stephens green etc) is THE nicest sandwich shop in Dublin, decor aside.

Yeah O'Briens always seemed over priced for poor sandwiches.

Must try Gruel out and Soup Dragon, sound tasty especially that roast in a roll business. I often pop into town on a Saturday and find myself stuck for a decent place for lunch.

    What El_Pres said.

The only good thing O'Briens sell are their cappucino's imho.

Subway are also nice but a bit pricey for what you get really..

South Street pizzeria on Georges St. does a tasty pizza and they do lunch specials too, it's been a while since I have been at lunch time so not sure how much it is.

They also do a garlic and chilli oil for the pizzas which is ab fab sweetie!

Aya in the IFSC do lovely sambos on thick bread. A chicken salad sambo is €2.50 and the chicken is the real deal, sliced nice and thick.

Ugh, that's one thing I can't STAND is mechanically recovered chicken! The kind you get in the sandwiches in centra eta and you just KNOW wasn't sliced directly from the chicken. Eurgh.

I wouldn't particularly rate O Briens either, its not much better than your Spar deli is it? And the Spar deli on Westmoreland St is good if hurrying, better than O Briens.
Spaco's on Sth Anne St is nice.
