why aren't there more kinds of smilies?

it's just that on other boards i've been on they have evil smilies and such other annoying graphics as would get your opinion across better. i just think that they're a good way to convey your tone of voice over posts is all and was wondering why this board has so few. stupid thread, but there y'go

There are various sites from which you can import smilies by using the image tags. The reason which I would give is that 11 smilies is more than enough to express the basic tone of a message and/or emotion. And that is, after all, what smilies are for. I know that I for one have probably not used more than 5 of those smilies in all my time on the boards.

Also, the boards are there for discussion rather than are galleries. And discussion mainly involves the use of words.

personally, the only smile i really like is the winking one. other than that, i would prefer words, being the word nerd that i am.;)
