A spoiler is when you give away, say, the plot of a movie or game or punch line of a joke too early and ruin it for others.

The spoiler tags are there so you can talk about the plots of movies, etc. without spoiling it for others that don't want to know the plot. You can put the important bits in spoiler tags and that way nobody will unintentionally read it.

With spoiler tags people only see the text if they really want to by highlighting the area in dark gray.

I don't actually like all cakes.
